Juan Escobar Campos

is a PhD student at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), where he is researching issues of social inequality, diversity and representation in classical music under the supervision of Dagmar Abfalter and Rosa Reitsamer. He is currently also a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Cultural Management (IKM) at the mdw. He holds a Research Master’s in Social Sciences from the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. His research interests lie at the intersection of art and society, particularly in the field of music and social inequalities, and are based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods. On a personal level, he is also interested in Afro-Colombian music and, in his spare time, is committed to raising the profile of these musicians.
