Gender Research Day
Since 1997, the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research has awarded the Gabriele Possanner Prizes for scientific achievements every two years. These will be awarded on March 1, 2022, as part of a Gender Research Day.
On the occasion of this Gender Research Day, examples of projects and work promoting gender studies at mdw are presented here.

As part of this concert, the song composition competition "Eine Stimme steht im Dunkel" will be announced.
In addition to the premiere of the commissioned work by Rojin Sharafi, in which texts by Elisabeth Meinhard, Bess Brenck-Kalischer, Nell Walden, Sylvia von Harden and Else Lasker-Schüler are electroacoustically processed, the programme includes works by female composers from various eras: Grażyna Bacewicz, Lili and Nadia Boulanger, Mel Bonis, Nazife Aral-Güran, Kaija Saariaho, Clara Schumann, Alice Mary Smith, Ethel Smyth, Lilly Zhang-Sowa.
The program was compiled and rehearsed together with mdw students participating in the Open Rehearsal Spaces.
A project initiated by Tanja Elisa Glinsner and Filip Pinczewski, hmdw Department for Equality and Diversity. Conception and implementation in cooperation with the staff unit Equality, Gender Studies and Diversity (GGD).
The project aims to:
- to make the artistic work of women visible,
- an examination of poems by female poets in a composition competition, and
- musical works by female composers will be presented and included in the repertoire of students.
The survey "Diversity in the repertoire of mdw students", which was already conducted in 2021, showed that although the names of female composers are already known, the works are still not part of the standard repertoire, both in concert halls and during the training of musicians.
