Structure: 3 modules
MODULE I: Physical basics
Bodywork - 1 semester, PR (practical course) - 2 ECTS
In this course, practical exercises from various body techniques for musicians are taught. In addition to practical bodywork, participants learn how to create meaningful exercise and training plans for students and professional musicians from a given collection of exercises.
Bodywork with instrument - 1 semester, PR (practical course) - 2 ECTS
This course represents a central point within the further education program. The knowledge acquired in other modules is bundled and then put into practice with musicians on the instrument. With the help of the inspection, students learn how to recognize unfavourable movement sequences and posture patterns in the various instrumentalists. Suitable exercises are then selected from the exercise pool and an individual exercise and training plan is drawn up.
Biomechanics - 1 semester, VU (lecture and exercise) - 2 ECTS
Anatomy and biomechanics form the basis for all work on the musculoskeletal system. In anatomy, students learn about the structure of muscles, connective tissue, bones, ligaments and joints. Their localization in the human body is taught with the help of images and palpation (touching the body). Biomechanics deals with the effect of forces on the human body. In addition to teaching theoretical physical principles, biomechanics is also felt and tested on the student's own body as far as possible.

Anatomy I-III
This course teaches the basic anatomy of the musculoskeletal system and respiration in detail. Furthermore, the functional anatomy in vivo with the muscle and joint function chains is developed so that the theoretical anatomical knowledge can be transferred into practice.
The course is held in three parts:
Anatomy I - 1 SSt, VU (lecture with exercise) - 2 ECTS
Contents: Anatomy of the spine, jaw, intervertebral discs, joints with associated musculature and range of motion. Anatomy of breathing, breathing exercises and tension regulation.
Anatomy II - 1 semester, VU (lecture with exercise) - 2 ECTS
Contents: Anatomy of the lumbar-pelvic-hip region and the lower extremities. Theory of movement and exercises on the topics of “standing” and “sitting”.
Anatomy III - 1 semester, VU (lecture with exercise) - 2 ECTS
Contents: Anatomy of the upper extremity. Practice of movement theory with the development of exercise sequences that are particularly suitable for musicians.
Music Physiology Basics - 1 semester, VU (lecture with exercise) - 2 ECTS
The aim of this course is to impart basic knowledge of music physiology.
Focal points include music physiology (history and state of the art); general clinical pictures; dealing with problem situations (according to the traffic light principle); ergonomic aids; hearing and hearing protection. By presenting the topics mentioned, the participants will gain an overview of the current state of music physiology, musicians' health and prevention.
Furthermore, the role of the participants in their field of work will be discussed. The position of the consultant plays a major role here.
Professional handling of medical issues in conversation and reflection on one's own behavior are discussed (handling problem situations according to the traffic light principle, see above).
Module II: Health coaching
Practice technique - 1 semester, VU (lecture with exercise) - 2 ECTS
The aim of this course is to build up and deepen knowledge about effective practicing and learning as well as the optimal retrieval of musical skills. The content is based on findings from music psychology and is taught with reference to musical practice. Health-relevant aspects of practicing are discussed and developed from a holistic perspective as an interplay of mental and physical processes.
Music Psychology I - 1 semester, SE (seminar) - 2 ECTS
This course teaches basic knowledge of music psychology. It covers central topics such as musical self-concept, motivation and performance anxiety. Building on this, students will learn how this knowledge can be translated into concrete strategies for musical practice (e.g. increasing musical self-efficacy, dealing with success, failure and competition). Using examples and concrete exercises, theoretical concepts are combined with practice-relevant topics.
Music Psychology II - 1 semester, SE (seminar) - 2 ECTS
This course focuses on the application of music psychology knowledge. As a basis for this, students reflect on their own role as teachers. Individual ways of implementation are developed and tested in practice with the students. The experiences gained are supervised in the group and the approaches tested are further developed in this way.
Module III: Performance training
Stress management - 1 semester, VU (lecture with exercise) - 2 ECTS
The aim of this course is to acquire personal competence in regulating tension in everyday life, when practicing and on stage and to be able to communicate this. Relaxation techniques from various areas (PMR according to Jacobson, autogenic training, psychohygiene training according to Lindemann, breathing meditation, etc.) are presented and practiced in order to develop individual strategies.
Mental training - 1 semester, SE (seminar) - 2 ECTS
Technique and interpretation on the instrument are the result of mental work. Findings from learning psychology and modern brain physiology are presented in theory and practice. These techniques make it possible to rehearse music texts in a time-saving manner, make them easy to recall even under stress and avoid unfavorable thought and movement patterns in advance. In this way, possible painful impairments and insecurities can be replaced by free music-making.
