This Best of concert showcases particularly outstanding talents from the mdw University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
David Volkmer is a prize winner of the Forum Gitarre Wien competition and the Enrico Mercatali Competition. He is successful in both classical and popular music. His program is correspondingly diverse, ranging from the 19th to the 21st century and also incorporating percussion.
The Fusion Trio presents a surprisingly groovy work by Johannes Maria Staud. “Now for Something Different” was written during the pandemic and is a swinging, cheerful piece. The musicians of the trio are active as soloists, in chamber music, and in the RSO Vienna, the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Trombonist Jonathan Helm was inspired to compose his own piece for his instrument during a trip through Bosnia: “Pleninarenje” describes the beautiful landscape, but also the still-present traces of the Balkan War. A very personal mood piece.
Wakana Kimura has already won numerous violin competitions, including the “Laszlo Spezzaferri” and “Danubia Talents” music competitions. Nilolai Kapustin's jazzy, virtuoso sonata gives her the opportunity to showcase all her strengths.

A cooperation with the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna.
