Margot Nessmann absolvierte das Studium der Instrumentalpädagogik (Hauptfach Klavier) 1989 am Mozarteum in Salzburg sowie das Studium Musikerziehung und Instrumentalmusikerziehung an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien 1991.
Sie unterrichtet seit 1993 das Fach Musikerziehung insbesondere in den bilingualen Klassen einer AHS im 22. Bezirk in Wien, deren Unterstufe als Neue Wiener Mittelschule geführt wird (GRG XXII, Theodor-Kramerstraße). Weiters unterrichtet sie das Fach PUK (Präsentation und Kommunikation).
Seit 2005 ist sie Lehrbeauftragte für Unterrichtslehre für Studierende der Studienrichtung Musikpädagogik der Universität Wien.
Selbst begeisterte Sängerin (längjähriges Mitglied zB im Chorus sine nomine) und ehemalige Chorleiterin, ist ihr das Singen mit Schülern und Schülerinnen ein großes Anliegen. Dabei versucht sie insbesondere auch solche Menschen zum Singen zu bringen, die darin keine oder nur ganz wenig Übung haben. Vorträge sowie Artikel rund um das Thema „Singen mit ungeübten Klassen“ spiegeln diesen Schwerpunkt wider.
Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt in ihrem Unterricht ist die Solmisation, die sie als wunderbares Bindeglied zwischen Singen und Notenlehre schätzen gelernt hat, um jungen Menschen konkrete Vorstellungen der notierten Töne und Rhythmen zu vermitteln.
Die Tätigkeit als Musiklehrerin erachtet sie als sehr sinnvoll und macht ihr viel Freude, weil sie davon überzeugt ist, dass Musikunterricht nicht nur schön sein, sondern auch viel zur Persönlichkeitsbildung beitragen kann.
Margot Nessmann completed her degree in Instrumental Music Education (major: piano) at the Mozarteum University Salzburg in 1989, followed by a degree in Music Education and Instrumental Music Education at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 1991.
Since 1993, she has been teaching Music Education, primarily in the bilingual classes of an academic secondary school (AHS) in Vienna’s 22nd district, whose lower level is organized as a New Secondary School (GRG XXII, Theodor-Kramerstraße, www.theodor-kramer.at). She also teaches the subject Presentation and Communication (PUK).
Since 2005, she has held a lectureship in Teaching Methodology for students in the Music Education program at the University of Vienna.
As a dedicated singer and long-standing member of ensembles such as the Chorus sine nomine, as well as a former choir conductor, she is particularly committed to promoting singing among her students. Her main focus is on encouraging those with little or no previous singing experience to discover and develop their own voices. Presentations and publications on “Singing with Inexperienced Classes” illustrate this pedagogical emphasis.
Another central aspect of her teaching is solmisation, which she values as an effective link between singing and music theory. Through it, she helps students gain a tangible understanding of pitch and rhythm as represented in musical notation.
She regards her work as a music educator as both meaningful and fulfilling, guided by the conviction that music education not only enriches life aesthetically but also plays a vital role in personal development.
