Program

Darius Milhaud

La cheminée du roi René, suite for wind quintet, op. 205

Franz Schubert

Introduction and Variations on "Trockne Blumen" for flute and piano, D 802

Johannes Brahms

Serenade No. 1 in D major, op. 11

One focus of the Wiener Musikverein in the current season is dedicated to Clara Schumann's flower album. She kept dried flowers in this little book and gave it to her dear friend Johannes Brahms with a personal dedication.
Darius Milhaud composed “La cheminée du roi René” for the film “Cavalcade d'amour.” His version for woodwind quintet can be heard this evening. Franz Schubert's introduction and variations on his song “Trock'ne Blumen” is a highly virtuosic work that he wrote for his circle of friends. In the second part of the concert, the recipient of the flower book himself has his say as a composer: Brahms composed his cheerful first serenade as a nonet for wind and string instruments. The music is performed by students of the mdw.

A cooperation with the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna.
