Students at the mdw invite you to an evening of chamber music full of fresh, Nordic sounds.

Mikhail Glinka is known to many as an opera composer. But his love of music began with the chamber music of the Finnish-Swedish composer Bernhard Henrik Crusell. His Grand Septet is imbued with the spirit of opera – no wonder, since Glinka was clearly inspired by his friend Vincenzo Bellini.

Crusell's Divertimento for oboe and string quartet is one of his most popular works. The composer was also a performing musician himself and created a particularly virtuoso part for the oboe here.

Franz Berwald did not receive the recognition he deserved in his native Sweden until late in life. His Septet shows how original and imaginative he was: inspired by Beethoven, but with a character all his own. The combination of a slow adagio with a lively scherzo is particularly sophisticated – a surprising and charming musical dialogue.
