Visual Folk Music Research

Established in 1997, the focus upon Visual Folk Music Research encompasses the creation and curating of a photo and video archive, indexed and documented in the Institutes’ database. The archive also undertakes its own projects and research including the photo and film documentation of instrument building, documentation of musical customs, visually supported research into the family histories of musicians, ensembles, etc.

The Schrammel Accordion Project

From 1997 to 2005, Karle Macourek was documented as he built a Schrammel accordion in his workshop in Vienna’s 15th district.
