The 2022 Fritz Kreisler Violin Competition
From 17 to 25 September of this year, the Fritz Kreisler Violin Competition took place in cooperation with the mdw. This was the tenth time that it had been held.
Johanna Bilgeri wins the mdw great talent award
The mdw great talent award powered by Christian Zeller returned this year to once again put outstanding mdw talents onstage. At the final round on 12 May 2022, bassoonist Johanna Bilgeri won the 1st prize while violinist Paul Kropfitsch and mezzo-soprano Helene Feldbauer claimed 2nd prizes ex aequo.
The 5th Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition
With the final round of the 5th Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition, held from 1 to 4 February 2022, the Ludwig van Beethoven Department of Piano in Music Education manifested a strong signal of the mdw’s uninterrupted international presence despite the ongoing pandemic.

Singer Hiroshi Amako, who wowed both the jury and the audience with his performance in the final round of the International Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition, is elated at his first place and € 10,000 cash prize.

The final round of the competition “mdw Great Talent Award powered by Christian Zeller” was held on 20 May 2021 following a delay due to COVID-19.
