Dr. Anda Beitāne is Professor and Vice-Rector for Research and Creative Work at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and researcher at the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art at the University of Latvia, Archives of Latvian Folklore. In 2006 she received her PhD from the Latvian Academy of Music with a dissertation on “Multipart Singing in Latvian Traditional Music” and established the Department of Ethnomusicology at the same institution. Since 1992 she has carried out fieldwork in Latvia, Russia (Siberia) and Belarus. Anda Beitāne is the author of a monograph about multipart singing in Latvian traditional music and has published several books, articles and recordings on local musical practices in Latvia, Siberia and Belarus.
