Thomas WallyThomas Wally received the Vienna City Award 2016 in the category of music. The city of Vienna annually grants awards for outstanding achievements in the fields of architecture, fine arts, literature, music (composition), journalism, research and national education and are granted as lifetime achievement awards.

The Vienna City Awards 2016 were granted by the councillor of culture Andreas Mailath-Pokorny in Vienna's town hall on 9 November 2016.

Thomas Wally studied the instrumental study Violin as well as Composition and Music Theory, branch of study: composition.

Manfred Wagner-Artzt

Ludwig van Beethoven Department of Piano and Cembalo in Music Education

Manfred Wagner-ArtztManfred Wagner-Artzt received the Golden Honorary Medal for Merits for Lower Austria to honour his commendable longtime work. The award has been granted on 13 December 2016 in St. Pölten.

Besides his instruction at the mdw the pianist is also vice president of the International Chopin Society in Vienna.

He teaches at the Ludwig Beethoven Department of Piano and Cembalo in Music Education.

Matej Santi

Department of Musicology and Performance Studies

Matej SantiMatej Santi received the Best Publication Award for the publication of his dissertation "Zwischen drei Kulturen. Musik und Nationalitätsbildung in Triest" this year.

The graduate thesis has been written at the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies between 2011 and 2014.

He is teaching Music History at mdw's Department of Musicology and Performance Studies.

Martin Vácha

Department of Voice and Musical Theatre

Award of Excellence Martin Vácha received the Award of Excellence of the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economics. The award ceremony took place at Palais Farrach in Vienna on 7 December 2016.

Martin Vácha is teaching Voice at mdw's Department of Voice and Musical Theatre.

Nicholas Ofczarek

Drama Department (Max Reinhardt Seminar)

Nicholas Ofczarek Nicholas Ofczarek is nominated for the Nestroy Award 2016 as "Best Actor".

He is instructor for character development at mdw's Max Reinhardt Seminar.

Manuel Schuen

Department of Organ, Organ Research, and Church Music

Manuel Schuen Manuel Schuen received the 2nd prize at the 18th Paul Hofhaimer Organ Competition.

The Paul Hofhaimer Organ Competition takes place at historic organs in Innsbruck, Tyrol every three years. It's one of the most renowned competitions for the interpretation of organ music of early masters.

Manuel Schuen is instructor at mdw's Department of Organ, Organ Research and Church Music.

Edward Zienkowski

Fritz Kreisler Department of String Instruments, Harp and Guitar

Edward Zienkowski Edward Zienkowski received the Honorary Doctorate and the title "Distinguished Professor" of the Bunri University in Tokushima, Japan. It is one of the oldest universities of Japan and one of mdw's partner universities.

The ceremony took place on 19 July 2016.

Edward Zienkowski is full professor for violin.

Pier Damiano Peretti

Department of Organ, Organ Research, and Church Music

Natasa Veljkovic With "Pièce extatique" for alto saxophone and piano Pier Damiano Peretti won the 1st prize at the TIM (International Music Tournament) in the category of composition. The score was the only one out of 83 transmittals from four continents to be awarded.

The TIM was founded in 1991 and is among the few international music competitions to feature all instrumental categories, music critics and composition.

The pre-decision took place in diverse European cities and are followed by further rounds in Turin, Italy. The work "Pièce extatique" will be performed at the award ceremony in the Conservatorio G. Verdi on August 2, 2016.

Pier Damiano Peretti is full professor for Organ.

The award ceremony took place at the University of Vienna on 26 April 2016.

He studied the instrumental study Violin as well as Composition and Music Theory, branch of study: composition.

Natasa Veljkovic Nataša Veljković, adjunct professor for piano, received the Pasticcio Award of the month April 2016 for her performance of piano works by Dora Pejačević.

Johannes Maria Bogner, Senior Lecturer für Cembalo und Generalbass, received the Pasticcio Award of the month December 2015 within the scope of the show "Pasticcio" by Ö1 on 31 December 2015.

The CD "Domenico Scarlatti, Sonatas" was presented on 7 January 2016 in the show "Ö1 bis zwei".
