The Academic Board of mdwPress decides on the inclusion of publications in the publishing program based on the submitted publication proposals and their formal evaluation by mdwPress. This also includes decisions on the inclusion of journals and book series. It has an consultative role regarding the orientation of the publishing program.
The individual members of the Academic Board are nominated for a term of two years. At least two of the five members must represent academic institutions other than mdw. mdwPress selects the members based on the professional expertise of potential candidates. In doing so, attention is paid not only to gender balance and diversity criteria but also to ensuring a diverse professional composition of the Board. The Members must have reached at least career level R3 or R4 according to the European Commission’s model.
Board meetings are generally held three times a year. The Board reaches decisions by consensus. If consensus is not possible, decisions are made by a simple majority. The preparation and submission of publication proposals, as well as the communication of the Board’s decision to the applicants, are handled by mdwPress.
