The goal of a truly diverse university is a lofty one. Making people fully aware of deep-seated patterns of thought and action as well as structural discrimination and both inclusionary and exclusionary criteria (in contexts such as entrance exams), calling these into question, and opening up new perspectives—all this and more plays a central role where diversity is concerned. In this issue’s Special, we provide some insights into the equality- and diversity-related work going on at the mdw: numerous projects here are making for a continual shift towards a university culture that’s as free from discrimination as possible, in the process demonstrating how diversity’s real-life practice gives rise to one thing above all: strength!
