Christina Dorner-Oberleitner absolvierte neben einem Instrumentalpädagogikstudium in Saxophon Klassik (bei Christian Maurer) auch ein Lehramtsstudium in den Fächern Musikerziehung und Mathematik an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien sowie der Universität Wien – jeweils mit Auszeichnung. Im Rahmen ihrer Ausbildung setzte sie zahlreiche Schwerpunkte, u.a. in Popularmusik (bei Martin Fuss und Klaus Dickbauer), Musikphysiologie sowie im audiovisuellen Arbeiten. In dieser Zeit erhielt sie wichtige künstlerische Impulse von Jean-Ives Fourmeau, Otis Murphey, Enzo Filipetti, Adrian Mears, David DeJesus, Michaela Reingruber, Markus Geiselhart und Peter Rohrsdorfer.
2022 wurde ihr der Würdigungspreis der mdw für ihr Masterstudium IGP Saxophon Klassik verliehen.
Als Saxophonpädagogin unterrichtet sie seit 2016 an der Franz-Schmidt-Musikschule Perchtoldsdorf in den Fächern Saxophon, Ensemble und Musikkunde. Zuvor war sie ebenso an der Musikschule Bad Vöslau (2014, 2016-2019) tätig.
Seit 2019 ist sie Teil des Instituts für musikpädagogische Forschung und Praxis der MDW.
Darüber hinaus unterrichtet sie seit 2018 Musikerziehung und Mathematik am GRg3 Hagenmüllergasse, an dem sie auch die Schulband leitet (derzeit karenziert).
Ihre pädagogische Arbeit ist geprägt von der Förderung dynamischer Gruppenprozesse, für die sie sich sowohl in ihrer praktischen als auch wissenschaftlichen Arbeit mit dem Thema des Community of Practice-Gedanken als Motivator im Instrumentalunterricht auseinandersetzt und diesen weiterdenkt. Zudem versteht sie die individuelle Anpassung von Methodik, Konzept und Unterrichtssituation an ihre Schüler:innen als Selbstverständlichkeit und essenzielle Basis für nachhaltige Lernerfahrungen, die intrinsische Motivation fördern und weit über die Musikschullaufbahn hinauswirken. Traditionelle Unterrichtsformen zu öffnen und damit lebendige Räume zu schaffen, in denen sich künstlerische Erfahrung und gemeinschaftliches Lernen gegenseitig befruchten, sieht sie als wesentlichen Teil ihrer künstlerisch-pädagogischen Überzeugung. Konkret wird dies in Projekten wie etwa Live-Filmvertonungen, Intensiv-Workshoptagen in Kooperation mit Saxophon-Studierenden und -Lehrenden der mdw sowie Exkursionen zu und Mitwirkung bei Fachveranstaltungen/Konzerten/Festivals.
Künstlerisch ist Christina Dorner-Oberleitner in vielfältigen interdisziplinären und genreübergreifenden Formaten aktiv. Dazu zählen u.a. das Literatur-Musik-Projekt 'fremdvertraut' mit der Schauspielerin Mirjam Ploteny, Auftritte mit dem Radiosymphonieorchester Wien unter Cornelius Meister, John Storgårds und Ingo Metzmacher, Uraufführungen zeitgenössischer Saxophonliteratur (z.B. Saxophon und Tonband), Saxophonquartette mit vielseitigen Programmen (Komponistinnen, Tango, Crossover, zeitgenössische Literatur), Klassik/Jazz-Duo mit Harfe und Saxophon, Big Band sowie als Bühnenmusikerin. Konzertauftritte führten sie nach Spanien, Italien, Deutschland, in die Slowakei und durch Österreich (u.a. Musikverein Wien, Konzerthaus Wien, Brucknerhaus Linz, Festspielhaus Bregenz, Porgy&Bess Wien, Odeon Wien und Stephansdom Wien).
Christina Dorner-Oberleitner completed a degree in Instrumental Pedagogy in classical saxophone (with Christian Maurer) as well as a teaching degree in Music Education and Mathematics at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the University of Vienna - both with honours. During her training, she focused on numerous areas, including popular music (with Martin Fuss and Klaus Dickbauer), music physiology, and audiovisual work. During this time, she received significant artistic inspiration from Jean-Ives Fourmeau, Otis Murphey, Enzo Filipetti, Adrian Mears, David DeJesus, Michaela Reingruber, Markus Geiselhart, and Peter Rohrsdorfer, among others.
In 2022, she was awarded the mdw's Recognition Award for her master's degree in IGP Classical Saxophone.
As a saxophone teacher, she has been teaching saxophone, ensemble, and music theory at the Franz Schmidt Music School in Perchtoldsdorf since 2016. Bevor that, she also worked at the Bad Vöslau Music School (2014, 2016-2019).
Since 2019, she has been part of the Institute for Music Education Research and Practice at the MDW.
In addition, she has been teaching Music Education and Mathematics at GRg3 Hagenmüllergasse since 2018, where she also leads the school band (currently on leave).
Her educational work is characterized by the support of dynamic group processes, which she explores and develops further in both her practical and academic work on the topic of the community of practice concept as a motivator in instrumental teaching. In addition, she considers the individual adaptation of methodology, concept, and teaching situation to her students to be a matter of course and an essential basis for sustainable learning experiences that promote intrinsic motivation and have an impact far beyond the music school career. She considers opening up traditional forms of teaching and thus creating lively areas in which artistic experience and collaborative learning mutually enrich each other to be an essential part of her artistic and pedagogical conviction. This is reflected in projects such as live film soundtracks, intensive workshop days in cooperation with saxophone students and teachers at the mdw, as well as excursions to and participation in specialist events, concerts, and festivals.
Christina Dorner-Oberleitner is artistically active in a wide range of interdisciplinary and cross-genre formats. These include the literature and music project 'fremdvertraut' with actress Mirjam Ploteny, performances with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under Cornelius Meister, John Storgårds, and Ingo Metzmacher, world premieres of contemporary saxophone literature (e.g., saxophone and tape), saxophone quartets with varied programs (female composers, tango, crossover, contemporary literature), classical/jazz duos with harp and saxophone, big bands, and as a stage musician. Concert appearances have taken her to Spain, Italy, Germany, Slovakia, and throughout Austria (including the Musikverein Vienna, Konzerthaus Vienna, Brucknerhaus Linz, Festspielhaus Bregenz, Porgy&Bess Vienna, Odeon Vienna, and St. Stephen's Cathedral Vienna).
