Studium an der Wiener Musikhochschule, der Universität Wien und der Sorbonne Nouvelle/Paris III (Lehramt Musikerziehung/Französisch, Magisterstudium IGP). Weitere Ausbildungen u.a. Lehrgang Atem-Stimme-Bewegung an der mdw sowie Akademielehrgang Projektmanagement des BMBWF.

Zwischen 1996 u. 2012 Unterrichtstätigkeit an Schulen in Wien (Musikerziehung, Wahlpflichtmodul Projektmanagement Arts+Projects) sowie als Instrumentalpädagoge. Ab 2009 an der mdw als Univ.assistent tätig, ab 2015 Senior Scientist, 2020-24 Assistenzprofessor (TenureTrack), seit 2024 Assozierter Professor für Musikpädagogik und Koordinator des Fachbereichs Lehramt (AMP).

Forschungsschwerpunkte in den Bereichen Design-based Research (DBR) und entwicklungsorientierte Forschung im musikpädagogischen Kontext sowie rund um digitale Technologien im 21.Jahrhundert und ihrer Bedeutung für musikalisches Lernen und Lehren (u.a. DigiTiME). Promotion im Fach Musikpädagogik zum Thema Komponieren zwischen Schule und Social Web. Von 2023-26 Consortium-Partner im EU-Drittmittelprojekt TEAM (Teacher Education Academy for Music. Future-Making, Mobility and Networking in Europe). Reviewer-Tätigkeit für EDU:TRANSVERSAL und European Perspectives on Music Education.

Arbeitsschwerpunkte in Curricularentwicklung & Koordinationsarbeit: Vorsitzender der StuKo Lehramt, 2017-2020 stv. Leiter im Koordinationszentrum Lehramt und leitender Currucularentwickler im Masterstudium Quereinstieg Musikerziehung. Seit 2020 Konzeption und Weiterentwicklung der Master-Praxisphase im Lehramtsstudium ME/IME, Zuständiger für die Mentor_innen im Bereich Lehramt des IMP. Seit 2021 Board Member der EAS - European Association for Music in Schools. Weitere Schwerpunkte: Mediendidaktik aus musikpädagogischem Blickwinkel (Technologieanwendungen wie Musiksoftware, Apps und musikpädagogische Web-Applikationen im schulischen Unterricht; siehe auch Online-Support der IMP-Website); Initiator der Moodle-Plattform der mdw; kunstbezogene, interdisziplinäre Projektarbeit an Schulen.

Wilfried Aigner holds master’s degrees in Music Education and French as well as in Instrumental Pedagogy, and a PhD in Music Education. He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, the University of Vienna, and Sorbonne Nouvelle/Paris III (teacher training programme in Music Education and French, master’s degree in Instrumental Teaching).

Between 1996 and 2012, he worked as a music teacher at secondary schools in Vienna and as an instrumental teacher. Since 2009, he has been working at the mdw, first as a university assistant, then as Senior Scientist in 2015, and as Assistant Professor (tenure track) from 2020–2024. Since 2024, he has been Associate Professor of Music Education and Coordinator of the Department of Teacher Education (AMP).

Wilfried Aigner’s research focuses on design-based research (DBR) in the context of music education, as well as on digital technologies in the 21st century and their significance for music learning and teaching. His PhD in Music Education dealt with composing between school and the social web. From 2023–2026, he has been a consortium partner in the EU-funded project TEAM (Teacher Education Academy for Music: Future-Making, Mobility and Networking in Europe). He is a reviewer for EDU:TRANSVERSAL and European Perspectives on Music Education.

Main areas of his work include curriculum development and coordination: Since many years, he is chair of the Teacher Training Programme Committee, he served as deputy head of the Coordination Centre for Teacher Education from 2017–2020, and was the lead curriculum developer for a master’s programme for career changers. Since 2020, he has been responsible for the design and further development of the master’s practice phase in the teacher training programmes, and for coordinating with the school mentors who collaborate with the IMP. Since 2021, he has also been a board member of the EAS - European Association for Music in Schools

Further areas of specialization include:
· Media didactics from a music education perspective (technology applications such as music software, apps, and music education web applications in school);
· Initiator of the mdw’s Moodle platform;
· Interdisciplinary art-related project work in schools.
