studierte Schlagwerk am Bruckner-Konservatorium Linz und der Musikuniversität Wien, intensive Beschäftigung mit Jazz und dem Rhythmusverständnis anderer Kulturen;
Fortbildung u.a. bei José Eladio Amat und Eliel Lazo (Cuba), Dudu Tucci (Brasilien) und Famadou Konaté (Westafrika);
Fokus auf Jazz und Worldmusic, weiters Projekte mit Neuer Musik, Performance, Theater, freier Improvisation und Literatur als Musikerin und Komponistin;
spielt/e u. a. mit Vienna Art Orchestra, Lia Pale, HR-Bigband Frankfurt, Wolfgang Puschnig, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Krzystof Dobrek, Doretta Carter;
Auftritte bei internationalen Jazzfestivals wie, London, Paris, Montreux, Vancouver, San Sebastian, Krakau, Wien, Saalfelden; zahlreiche CD-Produktionen; 2004 Hans Koller Jazzpreis als „side(wo)man of the year“;
unterrichtet an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien und leitet Workshops und Weiterbildungen mit Schwerpunkt Rhythmus und Percussion.
Ingrid Oberkanins studied percussion at the Bruckner Conservatory Linz and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna; intensive pursuit of jazz and the understanding of rhythm of non-European cultures;
lessons with José Eladio Amat and Eliel Lazo (Cuba), Dudu Tucci (Brazil) und Famoudou Konaté (Guinea); focus on jazz and world music, furthermore projects in theatre, literature, film, Neue Musik, performance and free improvisation as musician and/or composer;
played and plays among others with Vienna Art Orchestra, Lia Pale, Marilyn Mazur, hr-Bigband Frankfurt, Wolfgang Puschnig, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Krzystof Dobrek, Dorretta Carter; performances at international jazz festivals in London, Paris, Montreux, Vancouver, San Sebastian, Krakow, Vienna, Saalfelden; numerous CD productions;
2004 Hans Koller Jazz Award as “side(wo)man of the year”;
teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and leads workshops and further education courses with focus on rhythm and percussion.
