IN.TUNE - Innovative universities in Music and art in europe
Since January 2024, the mdw together with seven European partner universities has been working on IN.TUNE – Innovative Universities in Music and Art in Europe, the first European Universities Alliance in the field of music and one of only two alliances of arts universities among the 64 EUAs currently in existence.
Until 2027 the partners will develop joint concepts and structures for intensified, pan-European university cooperation as well as common strategies in the areas of Joint Education Provision & Mobility, Research & Innovation, Societal Engagement, and Alliance Governance & Cooperation.
The IN.TUNE Alliance, which is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, in addition to mdw brings together the following institutions:

IN.TUNE Joint Courses
IN.TUNE joint courses bring together teachers and students of eight European universities in Barcelona, Belgrade, Bucharest, Helsinki, Oslo, Paris, The Hague and Vienna, offering Joint Online Courses, Blended Intensive Programmes and Joint Modules to their altogether more than 10 000 students.
Starting with the winter semester 2026, IN.TUNE teachers offer Joint Online Courses in a combination of synchronous online sessions, for direct interaction between teachers and students from several IN.TUNE universities, and asynchronous classes, which can be accessed according to a more flexible schedule.

IN.TUNE - Joint Online Course - Hidden Harmonies, Meaning, and Power in Women Composers Works (WF/elective course)

Course content:
If you want to explore music by women composers, join this course! In an international classroom bringing together teachers and students from mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and UAB - University of Arts in Belgrade, we will theorize, analyse, listen to, and discuss the music of remarkable yet underrepresented women composers. We will examine how canons are formed, how music-theoretical language can include or exclude, and how gender-sensitive approaches to music theory can open new perspectives on musical meaning. This joint online course is grounded in project-based learning, culminating in an individual contribution published as part of an open-access online exposition.

IN.TUNE - Joint Online Course - Musician's health: sustainable practice (WF/elective course)
Study level: Bachelor, Master, and PhD
Course tutors: Päivi Arjas (Uniarts Helsinki), Karolina Sawicka (mdw Vienna)
Course content:
The course includes the following themes:
- Explore healthy, sustainable approaches to instrumental practice
- Focus on developing long-term artistic growth, physical wellbeing, and effective learning habits.
- Examine the psychological, physical, and creative factors that contribute to productive practice, injury prevention, time management, focus, resilience, and reflective learning and other learning strategies. Emphasis is placed on cultivating mindful, efficient, and sustainable practices that can support a lifelong engagement with music.
After completing the course, the student is able to:
- Identify and apply relevant methods and strategies related to practicing and performing in the context of physiological and psychosocial demands
- Self-regulate the health behaviour in practice, performance and recovery.
- Identify individual/personal risk factors based on the instrument, workload, behavioural and biological characteristics
