Werner Rohrer ist Assistenzprofessor (Tenure Track) für Elementare Musikpädagogik am Institut für Musikpädagogische Forschung und Praxis. Er ist Mitglied des International Orff Schulwerk Forum Salzburg (IOSFS) Research Committee und am CC-ECME Projekt „Co-Connecting Early Childhood Music Education: Towards Systems Thinking in European Music Institutions“ beteiligt.
Er studierte Instrumentalpädagogik am J. J. Fux-Konservatorium Graz, an der mdw sowie der Jazepa Vitola Latvijas Muzikas Akademia in Riga und schloss das Masterstudium Elementare Musik- und Bewegungspädagogik am Orff-Institut und sein Promotionsstudium an der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg ab.
Bevor er 2021 eine Stelle an der mdw antrat, war als Lehrender an der Privaten Pädagogischen Hochschule PPH Augustinum Graz sowie als Elementarer Musikpädagoge an steirischen Musikschulen tätig und absolvierte ein Internship an der San Francisco School in den USA (2019).
Seine Lehr- und Forschungsinteressen umfassen empirische Forschungsmethoden, Elementare musikalische und bewegte Lern- und Entwicklungsprozesse, Elementares Musizieren als „Interartistic Music Practice“ sowie Kooperations- und Kollaborationsprojekte zwischen EMP-Lehrenden und schulischen bzw. außerschulischen Partner*innen.

Werner Rohrer is an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Elemental Music Pedagogy at the Institute for Music Education Research and Practice. He is a member of the International Orff Schulwerk Forum Salzburg's (IOSFS) Research Committee and participates in the CC-ECME project “Co-Connecting Early Childhood Music Education: Towards Systems Thinking in European Music Institutions“.
He studied instrumental pedagogy at the J. J. Fux Conservatory in Graz, the mdw and the Jazepa Vitola Latvian Music Academy in Riga, before completing a Master's degree in Elemental Music and Movement Pedagogy at the Orff Institute, followed by doctoral studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.
Prior to joining the mdw in 2021, he taught at the Private University for Teacher Education PPH Augustinum in Graz, and worked as an EM teacher at music schools in Styria. He also completed an internship at the San Francisco School in the United States in 2019.
His teaching and research interests include empirical research methods; Elemental musical and movement-based learning; developmental processes; and the concept of “Interartistic Music Practice“ in Elemental music-making. He is also interested in cooperative and collaborative projects between EMP instructors and partners in and outside of schools.
