Lauren Steinmetz ist Cellistin, Instrumentalpädagogin und Musikpädagogikforscherin. Sie absolvierte ihren Master of Music in Cello Performance an der Manhattan School of Music und war Fulbright-Stipendiatin an der Hogeschool Gent (Belgien).
Ihr Umzug in den deutschsprachigen Raum markierte eine zunehmende Hinwendung zur Musikpädagogik und Forschung. Seitdem war sie an der Universität der Künste Berlin, der Universität Potsdam, der BTU Cottbus und der Hochschule Osnabrück in der Lehre tätig – sowohl im Bereich der Instrumental- und Gesangspädagogik (IGP) als auch in der Lehramtsausbildung. Seit 2024 ist sie Universitätsassistentin an der mdw – Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, wo sie im Rahmen des EU-Erasmus+-Projekts TEAM ein Arbeitspaket zu Schulpraktika im Ausland und Mentoring im Lehramtsstudium koordiniert. Sie promoviert an der mdw unter der Betreuung von Prof. Dr. Isolde Malmberg in Musikpädagogik. Ihre Dissertation untersucht die Professionalisierungswege von Musiker:innen mit IGP- oder Konzertfachabschluss in den Schulbereich in fünf europäischen Ländern.
Ihre Forschungs- und Lehrschwerpunkte umfassen die Schnittstelle zwischen Instrumentalpädagogik und schulischem Musikunterricht, Internationalisierung in der Musiklehrer:innenbildung, Demokratiebildung in der Musikpädagogik sowie inklusive Musikpädagogik.

Lauren Steinmetz is a cellist, instrumental music educator, and music education researcher. She holds a Master of Music in Cello Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and was a Fulbright Scholar at the Hogeschool Gent, BE.
Her move to the German-speaking world marked a deepening commitment to music pedagogy and research. She has since taught at the Universität der Künste Berlin, Universität Potsdam, BTU Cottbus, and the Hochschule Osnabrück, working across both the instrumental music pedagogy (IGP) and teacher education contexts. Since 2024 she has been a university assistant at the mdw – Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, where she coordinates a work package within the EU Erasmus+ project TEAM focused on school internships abroad and mentoring in music teacher education. She is pursuing her doctorate in music pedagogy at the mdw under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Isolde Malmberg, with a dissertation examining how musicians originally completing performance and instrumental pedagogy degrees are professionalized as school music teachers across five European countries.
Her research and teaching interests include the interface between instrumental music education and school-based music teaching, internationalization in music teacher education, democracy in music education, and inclusive music pedagogy.
