Studien Musikpädagogik und Instrumentalmusikpädagogik sowie Romanistik (Französisch) an der mdw sowie Universität Wien. 1996-2004 Gymnasiallehrerin in Wien, Ab 2004 Universitätsassistentin, Promotion an der mdw zur Projektmethode im Musikunterricht (best publication award der mdw). 2010 -2016 stv. Institutsleiterin des IMP, 2013-2016 Assistenzprofessorin sowie Leitung der Studienkommission Lehramt. 2016-2020 Professorin für Musikpädagogik (Schwerpunkt Grund- und Sonderschule) an der hmt Rostock, 2020-2024 Lehrstuhlinhaberin Musikpädagogik (Sekundarstufen) an der Universität Potsdam. Seit 2024 Professorin für Musikpädagogik am IMP und Fachbereichsleitung Lehramt/AMP.

Langjähriges Vorstandsmitglied der EAS (European Association for Music in Schools), 2021 bis 2023 EAS-Präsidentin, Editorial Board Member mehrerer namhafter internationaler Zeitschriften. 2023-2026 Leitung Erasmus+ Teacher Academies Projekt TEAM – Teacher Education Academy Music, 2023-2026 Standortleitung DigiProSMK - Digitalisierungsbezogene und digital gestützte Professionalisierung von Sport-, Musik- und Kunstlehrkräften, 2006-2009 Koordination meNet (music Education Network). Leitung der AG Fachdidaktik der IGSP – International Gesellschaft für schulpraktische Professionalisierung, Mitglied von SCHEME – Steering Committee for the Harmonisation of European Music Education, seit 2025 Ersatzmitglied des Senats der mdw.
 


Isolde Malmberg studied Music Education, Instrumental Music Education and French at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) and the University of Vienna. From 1996 to 2004, she worked as a secondary school teacher in Vienna before joining mdw as a university assistant in 2004. In 2010 she completed her doctoral degree with a thesis on project-based learning in music education (mdw Best Publication Award). From 2010 to 2016, she served as Deputy Head of the Department of Music Education (IMP), and from 2013 to 2016 as Assistant Professor and Head of the Teacher Education Study Commission. From 2016 to 2020, she was Full Professor of Music Education, with a focus on primary and special education, at the University of Music and Theatre Rostock. From 2020 to 2024, she held a Full Professorschip of Music Education, specialising in secondary education, at the University of Potsdam. Since 2024, she has been Professor of Music Education at the IMP.

Her research and academic work focuses on:
•    the professionalisation of music teachers and the development of the teaching profession;
•    mentoring and school-based teacher education;
•    project-based learning and approaches to learner autonomy and self-directed learning;
•    international and European perspectives in music education;
•    continuing professional development for teachers, particularly in relation to digitalisation and digital practices in music education; and
•    Design-Based Research in music education.

She has been actively involved in the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS) for many years, serving as a member of its Board and as EAS President from 2021 to 2023. She is a member of the editorial boards of several leading international journals in music education. From 2023 to 2026, she led the Erasmus+ Teacher Academies project TEAM – Teacher Education Academy for Music, a European cooperation project focusing on future-oriented music teacher education, mobility and networking. From 2023 to 2026, she was site coordinator of DigiProSMK – Digitalisierungsbezogene und digital gestützte Professionalisierung von Sport-, Musik- und Kunstlehrkräften, focusing on digital and digitally supported professionalisation in physical education, music and art education. From 2006 to 2009, she coordinated meNet (music Education Network), a European network for music teacher education. She is Head of the Subject Didactics Working Group of the IGSP – International Society for School-Based Professionalisation and a member of SCHEME – Steering Committee for the Harmonisation of European Music Education. Since 2025, she has served as a substitute member of the mdw Senate.
