Quality Assurance

mdwPress is committed to a multi-stage quality assurance process: First, authors and editors submit a publication proposal, which is formally reviewed by mdwPress.
In the next step, the Academic Board reviews the submitted publication projects in terms of their subject matter and content. After joint consultation and discussion, it decides on inclusion in the publishing program and on the form of the further review process. In addition, it may impose conditions or make recommendations for revising the submitted project.

As a standard practice, a double-blind peer review is required. In certain exceptional cases, such as non-scholarly contributions in anthologies or artistic-scholarly works, adequate alternatives to peer review may be found. If the reviews require major revisions, the Academic Board will reconsider the project and decide on the next steps. If the reviews call for only minor revisions, the final revision of the manuscript can begin directly in consultation with mdwPress.

In addition to the final manuscript, authors submit a statement regarding the peer reviews in which they document the revisions they have made. Based on this, mdwPress verifies whether the peer review recommendations have been addressed and all quality assurance requirements have been met. Finally, each publication is also subjected to a text similarity check in cooperation with the Competence Center for Academic Integrity.

At the end of each publication, there is a record of the quality assurance measures that were applied.

Journals and book series published by mdwPress each have their own editorial boards and quality assurance measures. before they can be accepted into the publishing program, they must also go through the application process, they are also subject to an evaluation process in which the mdwPress Academic Board decides on their acceptance. In doing so, the Board reviews, on the one hand, whether the academic and content-related concept is consistent and appropriate for the publishing program. On the other hand, it ensures that the structure and procedures of the boards, as well as other quality assurance measures, meet the publisher’s requirements.
