Dance Workshop: Afro-Haitian Dance, Singing, and Drumming by Karine LaBel

In this workshop, dancer and performer Karine LaBel will share the traditional Afro-Haitian Voudou dance practice, joined by Senegalese drummer Achmet M’baye. As a transatlantic connection, Karine LaBel has drawn on her knowledge of traditional movements, transforming them throughout her artistic dance practice. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and interact with Karine LaBel's dance sequences in connection to the drumming, exploring the relationship between choreographic agency and tradition in the context of the spiritual manifestation of dance.
