Migration of your student Mailbox to Microsoft 365 (Outlook)
 
 
Dear Students,
 
we are pleased to announce that your student mailbox is migrated to Microsoft 365 (Outlook) on August 3, 2026.
 
This will provide you with a powerful e-mail and communication infrastructure that functions identically across various devices and operating systems. Furthermore, you will be able to use all the programs included in the current Office suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) on your personal devices as well.
 
What does this migration mean in concrete terms?
 
  • Starting August 3, 2026, you can access your new email account at outlook.office.com and send and receive emails. You will use your student email address and your mdwOnline password to log in.
  • Between the beginning of August and mid-September, your existing emails will be gradually migrated to Outlook. This means that emails currently in your mailbox may not be immediately available in Outlook. Should you require urgent access to these emails before the migration is complete, please contact the IT Service Center.
  • For security reasons, as with mdwOnline, two-factor authentication using the Duo Mobile app is required. During the initial Outlook setup, you will be offered the Microsoft Authenticator by default. Instead, please click on "Other sign-in method" and then select "External MFA" to use Duo Mobile for verification.
  • The previous email environment (GroupWise) will no longer be usable after August 3, 2026, as it will be completely replaced by Outlook.
  • The data from the previous email environment (GroupWise) will be retained to allow access in urgent cases even after the migration.
