It’s likely that anyone who’s already cast a glance into the new Future Art Lab (FAL) on the mdw Campus has quickly realised how unbelievably much there is there to discover. Ultramodern sound studios and editing rooms, a concert hall that’s to be filled with life right from the start, and an in-house cinema are just some of what awaits students, teachers, and everyone else. On the following pages, you can read how the Future Art Lab came to be—from its initial design to the arrival of those departments that now call it home—and about the ideas and hopes that its new “inhabitants” bring with them. What’s more, the photographic gaze of Hertha Hurnaus immerses us in the architectural details—for it’s with all the senses that, since 1 October, work and study have brought this newly created place to life.
