István MátyásThe organist and pianist, István Mátyás, was born in Hungary, where he received his primary musical education. He studied concert organ and piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst with Roland Keller, Paul Gulda, Karen De Pastel, Rudolf Scholz and Martin Haselböck.

In 2005 he received 1st prize in the Mikael Tariverdiev Organ Competition in Kaliningrad and won four special awards. Since then, numerous concert engagements have taken him throughout Europe. Of particular note are his organ concerts in the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Budapest Palace of Arts, Tallinn Cathedral, the International House of Music in Moscow, the Basilica of St. Gereon in Cologne and at the Philharmonie in Perm. His world premiere recording of the organ works of Hans Gál was recognized by the press as the "most important discographic deed of the year" of 2007. Mátyás debuted at the Musikverein in Vienna with Marco Enrico Bossi's Organ Concerto in A minor, accompanied by the orchestra Wiener Akademie conducted by Martin Haselböck.

As a pianist István Mátyás works regularly with the Theater an der Wien, where as a rehearsal pianist and musical assistant he participates in new productions and collaborates with conductors such as Bertrand de Billy, Jean-Christophe Spinosi and Leo Hussain. He was director of studies at the Burgarena  Reinsberg for many years, where he was responsible for Beethoven's "Fidelio", Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel" and Weber's "Freischütz".

2008-2014 István Mátyás worked as a coach at the Kunstuniversität Graz, since 2014 he has worked as a coach at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
