Ethnomusicology (MA)

In the Master's program in ethnomusicology, you will explore the diverse soundscapes of our world. Music in Society (MA)

The scientific and artistic master Music in Society offers students the opportunity to acquire comprehensive musical knowledge and competencies from sociological, cultural, economic and gender-specific perspectives in four semesters. It combines theories and approaches from the sociology of music, art and culture, as well as the fields of cultural studies, cultural institutions studies and gender studies, culminating with a qualification for independent empirical research and a deepening of practical musical skills in one of the following areas: Popular Music; Music Making in Social Contexts; Music in Global Contexts / Traditional MusicsYou can find detailed information about the programme here.
 

Musicology (MA)

The programme imparts comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the complexity of the various manifestations of music in its historical, aesthetic, social and media diversity. It encourages the ability to reflect and criticise and offers the opportunity to set an individual focus within the research areas of the Institute of Musicology and Interpretation Research (Cultural Studies, Philosophy of Music, Music Theory and Analysis, Contemporary Music History, Interpretation Research).
