VERY VERY CONTEMPORARY Arts Practice Festival
Over a total of four days at the Klangtheater, there will be a lot to see, hear, feel – and be part of. It’s about myths, witches, death and revenge. About community and connections with the smallest creatures. About soil, leaves, different tempi and realities of life, and about bodies, homelands and solidarity.

Nika Bauman (TMP)
Arache
Arachne is a lecture performance based on the musical theatre piece of the same title by Nika Bauman. Through storytelling, music and performance, it combines rituals, femininity and connectedness and invites the audience to lose themselves in the spider’s web.
Nika Bauman is a musician, director and performer. As an artist, she performs at the interface between interdisciplinary storytelling, music theatre, interpretation and improvisation. Her main projects include the multidisciplinary ensemble Synesthetic Project, the folkloristic-contemporary quartet Ensemble Illyrica and the curation of concerts by the TAKT Kulturverein.

SELINA PILZ (MV/CM)
HÖRT MAN DAS NOCH?
HÖRT MAN DAS NOCH? examines transformative concert experiences with classical music that integrate elements from improvisation and contemporary music theatre. Schubert’s Death and the Maiden is thus re-contextualised.
Selina Pilz is a violist and community musician. Despite her ‘classical’ training, she still sometimes feels bored or unrepresented in ‘classical’ concerts. This leads her to experiment with and explore new frameworks for music (often together with the Saitenschneider Quartett).

They are active in artistic and activist collectives (Richtung22 in Luxembourg and Radikal Spazieren, bootleg and queerconnexion in Vienna). ANGELO BELTRAME (MV/CM)
M4A
M4A is a community music project in which professional musicians and amateurs improvise. The group performs at the MDW festival without losing touch with the 4lthangrund cultural centre.
Angelo Beltrame loves to spend time at the sea shore in order to later bring sounds and colours to the surface with cello and electronics.
After 15 years of classical cello playing and a degree in political science, he was able to reposition himself artistically in the CAP Master’s programme by exploring improvisation and community building.
Together with Selina Pilz, he runs the music group for everyone at the 4lthangrund cultural centre, a low-threshold music format with a focus on improvisation. With M4A, he wants to highlight the relevance of projects and spaces for togetherness in a social and cultural context.

MARKO ARICH (IComP)
Oblivious Transfer
Oblivious Transfer is an interdisciplinary improvisation series in which cross-genre collaborations between music, art and performance are created. Marko Arich is a guitarist and composer. In his artistic work, he deals with the intuitive and introspective dimension of improvisation and composition, especially at the interfaces between electronic sound aesthetics, contemporary music and electroacoustic experiments. Pressure Drop
when it occurs
suddenly and without warning
your eyes change color

I DON’T KNOW SO I GO INTO THE FOREST
An immersive, interdisciplinary new music performance inspired by Women Who Run with the Wolves. The space is staged as a minimalist forest, four solo clarinet pieces embody ritual, repetition and change:

Elena Arbonies Jauregui is a clarinettist and bass clarinettist who specialises in contemporary music. She performs regularly with ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, PHACE, Ensemble N, VIO and others and plays at festivals such as Wien Modern, Impuls, Warsaw Autumn and TIMF.

She has also been a finalist in international competitions such as the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours in Amsterdam and the Prix D’Harmonie Competition in Rotterdam.
She has a keen interest in transdisciplinarity and narrativity in new music as ways to create a close connection with the audience. VIKTORIA HOFMARCHER (IComP)
BODIES – an alternative view
BODIES – an alternative contemplation is a photographic-musical exploration of the human body, in which photo|graphic scores become sound and movement and invite us to discover an alternative contemplation.
Viktoria Hofmarcher (she/her) is a musician, photographer and much in between. Having grown up musically with alpine folk music (Dreimäderlhaus), she embarks on new musical journeys with various projects (no string quartet, zoat, Vienna Soundpainting Collective) and is in search of new sound colours, also in combination with a visual aspect.

OLGA RYBAKOVA (IMP/EM)
Her Soul
Her Soul is an interdisciplinary theatre project that was created to give Russian-speaking women in Vienna the opportunity to talk about how they experienced the events of the last three years of war.
So that others do not forget.
So that they themselves do not run away from the past.
Because as hard as it is to talk about it, it is even harder to remain silent.
Olga Rybakova is a singer and music teacher who follows the principles of elementary music-making in her work and has a wide range of artistic activities. Among other things, she performs with the Philharmonia Choir and is the artistic director of the Flavia Choir in the town of Lambach. In 2024, she founded and directs the women’s ensemble for contemporary music Lilac Dawn.
In her spare time, she plays in the cover band Freud me, participates in the theatre 8+, for which she also writes children’s music – and is a crazy cat lady.

ANNA BUCHEGGER (TMP)
MY SOFTGUN, THE CONDOM AND ME
In Austria, ‘ Homeland’ means drinking beer, everything stays the old way, another beer and a bit of right-wing populism. But that’s over now. I want to bring ‘ Homeland’ back to us.
Anna Buchegger is a musician. In 2024, she released her debut album Windschatten, in which she mixes elements of Alpine folk music with contemporary urban pop music and renegotiates the concept of ‘Heimat’. Windschatten was honoured with the Hubert von Goisern Award and was nominated in two categories of the Austrian Amadeus Music Awards in 2025. With Meine Softgun, das Kondom und ich, Buchegger approaches the Austrian concept of Heimat from a transmedia performative perspective and with a wink.
