mdw Doctoral Scholarship 2025
The mdw doctoral scholarship supports outstanding dissertations at the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Its aim is to support early stage researchers at doctoral level and to give visibility to the achievements within the framework of the PhD programme at the mdw.
We congratulate this year's scholarship holders Manuel Baumer, Felix Dieterle, Sara Isabel Grajales Tamayo, Titas Lasickas, Aharon Rabenu, Bettina Schuster, Xinzi Hou, Philipp Kehrer and Aria Esmaeili Torkanbouri on their outstanding achievements!
Award of Excellence for Isabel Frey
Isabel Frey was honoured by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education for her dissertation "Vocal Yiddishkeit: Postvernacular Transmission and Performance of Yiddish Folksong" with the Award of Excellence 2025 ausgezeichnet. This state prize, endowed with €3,000, has been awarded to the 40 best dissertations of the past academic year since 2008. Our warmest congratulations!

Award of Excellence for Elena Minetti
Elena Minetti was honoured by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education for her dissertation "Schrift als Werkzeug. Typeface Operativity in Compositional Processes of Early musique mixte (1949-1959)" with the Award of Excellence 2024 ausgezeichnet. This state prize, endowed with €3,000, has been awarded to the 40 best dissertations of the past academic year since 2008. Our warmest congratulations!

Promotion sub auspiciis praesidentis an Milena Amann-Rauter verliehen
Milena Amann-Rauter wurde am 18.3.2024 in einer feierlichen Zeremonie die Promotion sub auspiciis praesidentis von Ulrike Sych verliehen. Der Verleihung im Fanny-Hensel-Saal der mdw folgt am Nachmittag eine Würdigung durch den Bundespräsidenten Alexander Van der Bellen in der Hofburg. Sie hat ihre Dissertation zum Thema „Avec mon arme, la musique – Politisches Engagement exilierter Musikerinnen und Musiker im Kontext des Front Populaire“ mit Auszeichnung abgeschlossen. Bereits für ihre ebenfalls an der mdw verfasste Diplomarbeit hatte Milena Amann-Rauter 2016 den Würdigungspreis des Bundesministeriums für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Wirtschaft erhalten. Wir gratulieren herzlich!
