Tim-Tarek Grund is a technologist and musician from Berlin, Germany. His work explores the intersections between performer, technology, interface and sound, as well as the role of performers within the socio-technical network of live-electronics. He completed his Master's Degree in Audio Communication and Technology at Technische Universität Berlin. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Music Acoustics – Wiener Klangstil at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he is investigating live-electronic music performances using eye-tracking.

PhD project:
In electronic instruments interface and sound generator are decoupled. Mappings as associations between input and output parameters for sound synthesis have been studied extensively. However only little effort has been made to study musical behavior in live-electronic music performance and the interplay between gestures, interfaces, mappings and sound synthesis using psychophysiological measurements to uncover underlying cognitive processes. In this project I conduct different experiments to understand live-electronic performance. Gathering data from gaze tracking experiments, I identify modes of interaction between behavior and interface elements such as cognitive bottlenecks. Potentially, results help producing strategies for learning live-electronic skills, and support designing musical interfaces and setups by removing cognitive load.
