The mdw is internationally and globally networked, with students from over 70 nations and some 190 partner universities from every continent. This vibrant exchange benefits students, teachers, and administrative staff who travel to our partner institutions or come from them to the mdw.

On 1 October 2019, mdw Rector Ulrike Sych began her second four-year term of office.

On 24 May 2019, honorary membership in the mdw was conferred on Friedrich Cerha in acknowledgement of his unwavering commitment to contemporary music and its appreciation as well as in recognition of his internationally lauded output as a composer.

On 16 October 2019, the project spiel|macht|t|raum will dedicate the hall used by the Centre for Further Education to a new source of inspiration for the 2019/20 academic year: Erna Kremer, a pianist and former instructor at our institution.

The history of the mdw actually embodies two centuries of Austrian cultural history, all of whom have one thing in common: their ascent to the world stage.
