The upcoming 32nd edition of the tradition-steeped Vienna Days of Contemporary Piano Music, scheduled to take place at the mdw from 30 January to 3 February 2026, will feature Tristan Murail as a guest—reason enough to present a brief portrait of this intriguing composer.

Over 250 candidates registered for the competition’s 15th edition.

The first instalment of the series featuring lectures, workshops, masterclasses, panel discussions and concerts took place in May of 2006.

On 6 June, the Georgian pianist will perform live at the mdw’s bicentennial ceremony in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein.

In the early summer of 2017, young pianists will converge on the mdw for the 15th time to prove their Beethoven expertise before an international jury and the Viennese public.
