In this issue’s Special, we take an in-depth look at how science communication is far more than simply getting one’s research findings across. The following pages reveal what makes science communication at an arts university special, the challenges that it entails, and the concrete projects and measures through which the mdw is shaping dialogue with various groups of people within and outside of the University. Central to all of these efforts is exchange with various segments of our society. After all, science communication isn’t a one-way street—for the attendant dialogue can open up new perspectives, create space for mutual learning, and ultimately enrich the production of new scientific and scholarly knowledge.
