Georg Misch
Georg Misch assumed his professorship in film sound at the Department of Composition, Electroacoustics, and Tonmeister Education on 1 October.
Misch, a director, tonmeister, and producer, studied at the universities in Trier and Stirling (Scotland) as well as at Britain’s renowned National Film & Television School (NFTS). At the mdw, he has long taught film sound as an instructor (since 2004) and as a senior lecturer (since 2011). Georg Misch also works as a freelance tonmeister, having founded the Viennese production company Mischief Films in 2002. As a director and producer, Misch has realised numerous cinematic documentaries and international co-productions for broadcasters including the BBC, ARTE, the ARD, and the ORF. His works as a director include episodes in the ORF’s Universum documentary series such as Wüstenschiffe (2012), Der Weg nach Mekka (2008), No Name City (with Florian Flicker, 2006) and Calling Hedy Lamarr (2004). Alongside the history and theory of film sound, Georg Misch’s teaching emphases include dealing artistically with film sound and location sound recording, especially for documentaries and for concerts filmed with multiple-camera setups.
