Liebe Kolleg:innen, Herzliche Einladung zur Verleihung des Herta & Kurt Blaukopf Award 2026 morgen, 17.06.2026 im Bankettsaal. Feiern Sie mit uns herausragende Leistungen im wissenschaftlichen Doktorat und würdigen Sie die Preisträger:innen im feierlichen Rahmen. Der Artistic Research Pilot Projects Call 2026 stieß mit 16 Anträgen auf besonders großes Interesse und übertraf damit alle bisherigen Ausschreibungsrunden. Besonders erfreulich war die hohe Qualität der eingereichten Konzepte. Wir bedanken uns herzlich bei allen Antragstellenden für ihre innovativen Ideen und die sorgfältig ausgearbeiteten Projektvorschläge. Wir freuen uns über die bald startenden Projekte und die vielfältigen Impulse, die sie für die Künstlerische Forschung an der mdw setzen werden:
Wir freuen uns sehr, dass Maja Figge ihr von der VolkswagenStiftung gefördertes Projekt „Infrastructuring Solidarity: Towards Careful Abolition – A Post-digital Media Theory of Solidarity“ am International Research Center – Gender and Performativity (ICGP) der mdw umsetzen wird. Herzlich willkommen an der mdw! Ebenso freuen wir uns, dass Bianca Schumanns Projekt „Klavierwettbewerbe im Kalten Krieg“ im Rahmen des FWF-Programms ESPRIT bewilligt wurde. Herzlichen Glückwunsch an das Team des Exilarte-Zentrums zur erfolgreichen Einwerbung einer weiteren Förderung aus Mitteln des Nationalfonds der Republik Österreich für das Projekt „Aus dem Schatten ins Licht – Verfemte Komponist und ihr Erbe“. Einen wichtigen Erfolg auf europäischer Ebene konnte George Sioros erzielen: Sein Antrag für einen Consolidator Grant des European Research Council (ERC) – eine der renommiertesten Förderungen im Europäischen Forschungsraum – hat die erste Begutachtungsrunde erfolgreich durchlaufen. Für das bevorstehende Hearing wünschen wir viel Erfolg! Wir gratulieren auch Axel Petri-Preis zur Förderung seines niederländischen Konsortiums für die Vorbereitung des ERASMUS+ - Projekts „Leading in Context: A European Network for Community Music and Social Cohesion“. Der aktuelle FWF-Jahresbericht 2025 unterstreicht die erfolgreiche Drittmitteleinwerbung für die Forschung an der mdw: Insgesamt 4,2 Millionen (S. 88-89) Wir bedanken uns bei allen Forschenden für die gute Zusammenarbeit! Die nächste Ausschreibungsrunde der mdw Postdoc Fellowships 2026 ist bereits geöffnet. Forschende in der Postdoc-Phase sind eingeladen, ihre Projektanträge einzureichen. In den nächsten Tagen erfolgt dazu eine eigene Aussendung. Die Einreichfrist endet am 04.09.2026. Auch für das mdw PhD Meet & Greet 2026 werden noch Beiträge entgegengenommen. Die Veranstaltung bietet Doktorand:innen die Möglichkeit, ihre Forschungsprojekte vorzustellen, sich zu vernetzen und Einblicke in aktuelle Forschungsvorhaben an der mdw zu gewinnen. Einreichungen sind noch bis 30.06.2026 möglich. Dear colleagues, You are warmly invited to the Herta & Kurt Blaukopf Award 2026 Ceremony, taking place tomorrow, 17 June 2026, in the Banquet Hall. Join us in celebrating outstanding achievements in the context of academic doctoral studies and honoring this year’s award recipients in a festive setting. The Artistic Research Pilot Projects Call 2026 attracted a particularly high level of interest, with 16 applications received, surpassing all previous rounds of the call. The high quality of the proposals submitted was particularly encouraging. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all applicants for their innovative ideas and carefully crafted project proposals. We look forward to the projects starting soon and the diverse impetus they will bring to the research landscape at the mdw:
We are delighted that Maja Figge will be implementing her project “Infrastructuring Solidarity: Towards Careful Abolition – A Post-digital Media Theory of Solidarity”, funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, at the International Research Center - Gender and Performativity (ICGP) at the mdw. A warm welcome to the mdw! We are equally delighted that Bianca Schumann’s project “Piano Competitions during the Cold War” has been approved under the FWF’s ESPRIT programme. Congratulations to the team at the Exilarte Centre on successfully securing further funding from the National Fund of the Republic of Austria for Victims of National Socialism for the project “From the Shadows into the Light – Ostracised Composers and their Legacy”. George Sioros has achieved a significant success at European level: his application for a Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) – one of the most prestigious grants in the European Research Area – has successfully passed the first review round. We wish him every success for the upcoming hearing! We would also like to congratulate Axel Petri-Preis on the funding awarded to his Dutch consortium for the preparation of the ERASMUS+ project “Leading in Context: A European Network for Community Music and Social Cohesion”. The latest FWF Annual Report 2025 highlights the success of the mdw in securing external funding for research: a total of 4.2 million (pp. 88–89). We would like to thank all our researchers for their excellent cooperation! The next call for applications for the mdw Postdoc Fellowships 2026 is open. Researchers in the postdoc phase are invited to submit their project proposals. A separate press release will be issued on this matter in the coming days. The submission deadline is 4 September 2026. Submissions are also still being accepted for the mdw PhD Meet & Greet 2026. The event offers PhD students the opportunity to present their research projects, network and gain insights into current research initiatives at the mdw. Submissions are open until 30 June 2026. Save the dates for these upcoming events: On 23 September 2026 at 5:00 p.m., the mdw Young Research Award 2026 will be presented in the New Concert Hall at Rennweg. As part of Postdoc Appreciation Week (21–25 September 2026), mdw will participate for the first time with two events.
