Liebe Kolleg:innen, Das bevorstehende Sommersemester hält wieder eine Vielzahl von Angeboten und Veranstaltungen für Sie bereit – wir freuen uns darauf, gemeinsam mit Ihnen in ein inspirierendes Halbjahr zu starten! Ein besonderer Auftakt erwartet uns mit der Klausur der Wissenschaften am 05.03.2026 sowie der Feier zum 10-jährigen Jubiläum unserer Abteilung am 06.05.2026. Beide Termine bieten Gelegenheit zum fachlichen Austausch, zur strategischen Weiterentwicklung und nicht zuletzt zum persönlichen Wiedersehen. Wir laden Sie sehr herzlich ein, diese besonderen Momente mit uns zu begehen. Bereits am 02.03.2026 startet die neue Ringvorlesung „Music and Digital Humanities“. Die Vorlesungsreihe ist eine Kooperation zwischen dem Institut für Musikalische Akustik – Wiener Klangstil (IWK) und dem Institut für Musikwissenschaft und Interpretationsforschung (IMI) und wird durch das Netzwerk CLARIAH-AT gefördert, dem die mdw seit 2025 angehört. Die Reihe eröffnet innovative Perspektiven an der Schnittstelle von Musikforschung und Digital Humanities, ein Themenbereich, den wir in Zukunft weiter vertiefen wollen. Nach der ersten IN.TUNE AIRE-Konferenz an der mdw im November 2025 (hier finden Sie eine Rückschau) steht in Oslo die nächste Etappe bevor: “IN.TUNE AIRE 2026 – Research Education and Supervision in Focus", 08–09.04.2026. Eine Anmeldung ist noch bis 20.03.2026 möglich. Alle mdw-Forschenden sind außerdem herzlich eingeladen, sich am Knowledge Hub im Rahmen von Working Group 1 zu beteiligen. Besonders erfreulich ist das große Interesse am Register of Supervisors innerhalb der Allianz – aktuell liegen bereits über 50 positive Rückmeldungen vor. Ein starkes Signal für die nachhaltige Weiterentwicklung der wissenschaftlichen Lehre. Leiten Sie aktuell ein Forschungsprojekt oder bereiten Sie einen Antrag vor und stellen sich Fragen zu Ihren Aufgaben und Pflichten als Projektleiter:in? Das „Task competency profile für Projektleiter:innen“ informiert insbesondere hinsichtlich der Themen Budget, Personal, rechtliche Rahmenbedingungen und Kommunikation. In einer Weiterbildungsveranstaltung am 23.03.2026, 09:00 – 12:00 Uhr können mit Vertreter:innen der betreffenden mdw-internen Abteilungen konkrete Fragen besprochen werden. Die Anmeldung ist noch möglich. Unter dem Titel „Jazz Encounters. Foundations and Potentials of Music Mediation in Jazz“ erschien in mdwPress Ende Dezember die dritte Ausgabe des International Journal of Music Mediation (IJMM). Aktuell läuft zudem bis 31.05.2026 der Call for Contributions für die Ausgabe “Participatory Opera and Music Theatre”. Mit der Inflationsanpassung der Gehälter und Personalkostensätze führt der FWF eine neue Dienstvertragskategorie ein: Künftig können „wissenschaftliche Expert:innen“ – etwa Data Stewards oder Programmierer:innen – gezielt für projektspezifische Aufgaben in FWF-Projekten angestellt werden (aktuelle Personalkostensätze des FWF). In diesem Zusammenhang möchten wir darauf hinweisen, dass es auch 2026 wieder eine Ausschreibung der Förderung über die Forschungsförderung für die Teilnahme am Lehrgang Data Steward der Universität Wien geben wird. Für alle Leiter:innen und Mitarbeiter:innen von FWF-Projekten: Die Fördermittel des FWF (OAP) stehen weiterhin für die Open-Access-Veröffentlichung von begutachteten Zeitschriftenartikeln, einzelnen Beiträgen in Sammelbänden o. Ä. zur Verfügung - unabhängig davon, wann das Projekt beendet wurde. Aktuell stehen ausreichend Mittel zur Verfügung. Wenn diese seitens der mdw bis Jahresende nicht abgerufen werden, werden sie an den FWF zurückgezahlt. Informationen zur Antragstellung und zu den Förderbedingungen finden sich hier. Dear colleagues, The upcoming summer semester once again has a wide range of courses and events in store for you – we look forward to starting an inspiring half-year together with you! A special start awaits us with the Research Conclave (KdW) on 5 March 2026 and the celebration of the 10th anniversary of our department on 6 May 2026. Both events offer opportunities for professional exchange, strategic development and, last but not least, personal reunions. We cordially invite you to celebrate these special moments with us. The new lecture series ‘Music and Digital Humanities’ will begin on 2 March 2026. The lecture series is a collaboration between the Department of Music Acoustics – Wiener Klangstil (IWK) and the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies (IMI) and is funded by the CLARIAH-AT network, of which the mdw has been a member since 2025. The series opens up innovative perspectives at the interface of music research and digital humanities, a subject area that we intend to explore in greater depth in the future. Following the first IN.TUNE AIRE conference at the mdw in November 2025 (here you can find a review), the next stage is coming up in Oslo: 'IN.TUNE AIRE 2026 – Research Education and Supervision in Focus’, 8–9 April 2026. Registration is open until 20 March 2026. All mdw researchers are also cordially invited to participate in the Knowledge Hub as part of Working Group 1. The great interest in the Register of Supervisors within the alliance is particularly gratifying – there are currently over 50 positive responses. This is a strong signal for the sustainable development of academic teaching. Are you currently leading a research project or preparing an application and have questions about your tasks and duties as a project manager? The ‘Task competency profile for project managers’ provides information on topics such as budget, personnel, legal framework conditions and communication. In a training on 23 March 2026, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., specific questions can be discussed with representatives of the relevant mdw internal departments. Registration is still open. Under the title ‘Jazz Encounters. Foundations and Potentials of Music Mediation in Jazz’, the third issue of the International Journal of Music Mediation (IJMM) was published by mdwPress at the end of December. The call for contributions for the issue ‘Participatory Opera and Music Theatre’ is currently open until 31 May 2026. With the inflation adjustment of salaries and personnel cost rates, the FWF is introducing a new service contract category: in future, ‘scientific experts’ – such as data stewards or programmers – can be hired specifically for project-specific tasks in FWF projects (current personnel cost rates of the FWF). In this context, we would like to point out that there will be another call for applications for funding through the Research Fund for participation in the Data Steward course at the University of Vienna in 2026. For all FWF project leaders and staff: FWF funding (OAP) continues to be available for the open access publication of peer-reviewed journal articles, individual contributions to anthologies, etc., regardless of when the project was completed. Sufficient funds are currently available. If these are not used by the mdw by the end of the year, they will be repaid to the FWF.
