The Innovative Conservatoire (ICON) is an international collaboration chaired by the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. From 22 – 24 February 2016 a guest seminar is to take place at the mdw.

Content

The seminar aims to extend understanding of how musicians learn, particularly in conservatoire and specialist music education contexts. Bringing together a group of teachers to reflect on their practice, we will consider how as teachers we can facilitate the development of an intense and detailed craft alongside supporting individual artistry, creative expression and sustainable professional practice.

We will look at issues of empowering students to take ownership of their learning, possibilities for reflection as an integrated part of practice, and the connections between teachers as learners, and learners as teachers.

The main goal is to explore the relationships between learning, teaching and reflective practice, targeting at teachers from Performance Departments and Music Education Departments, especially with a focus on one-to-one and small group teaching.
