About the opera "The Tempest"
For the third time in its history the Vienna State Opera is to present an opera based on Shakespeare's "Tempest" by a contemporary composer, being the first two works the premiere of Frank Martin's Opus in 1956 and Luciano Berios "Un re in ascolto".
This is followed now – as an Austrian premiere – by the adaptation of Thomas Adès (born 1971 in the UK) on 14 June 2015, which could establish itself internationally in no time, contrary to most new creations in musical theatre in the last years.
Just like at the premiere in London, the composer is to take his place at the conductor's stand, presenting his three-act-opera personally to the Viennese audience.
A co-production with the Metropolitan Opera New York and the L'Opéra de Québec.
