The project "Music & Refugees"
mdw students perform for refugees - from classical music to pop

Life as a socially isolated refugee waiting for the asylum decision is not very pleasant. With the project "Music & Refugees", mdw instructors and students want to improve the lives of refugees in everyday life.
Refugees should be given a voice and a possibility to express themselves as well as being able to spend their leisure time in a meaningful way.
With the expertise and guidance of the mdw team, regular music making with refugee groups (e.g. unaccompanied minors, women's groups) will be organized. Special attention is given to the voice and "simple" instruments. Refugees should also build instruments.
This concept has been developed with regard to the social harmonizing effect of music making. In the academic year 2014/15, the following activities are planned:
- im House of Integration:
Music Therapy
Music programme for the winter festival
"Music to touch" for pupils of elementary schools
- im SIDRA House (unaccompanied youth):
Instrumental education
- at the Festsaal of the Bezirksamt (Währinger Straße 43):
mdw students perform a concert for refugees
