Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)
The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), also known as the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme or Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, is a voluntary instrument developed by the European Union. It is a joint system of environmental management and environmental auditing for organizations that want to improve their environmental performance.
The improvement of environmental performance is the core objective of EMAS and is usually recorded for the environmental aspects of resource consumption, waste, water, emissions and biodiversity using specific and standardized performance indicators. Improvements and trends thus become measurable and can be meaningfully compared over several time periods both within and outside the company.
