Eugenia Hernandez-Ruiz, PhD, MT-BC is a Mexican music therapist and Assistant Professor in Music Therapy at Arizona State University, USA. Her research and clinical interests include parent coaching of music interventions for autistic children, music psychology and neuroscience, and student research skill development. She currently serves as Associate Editor of Music Therapy Perspectives and is part of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Music Therapy. She is part of the Board of Directors of the Asociacion de Musicoterapeutas en Mexico (AMME) and participates in the Historical Commission of the Comité Latinoamericano de Musicoterapia (CLAM).

Infants as Key Stakeholders in Music Intervention Development: Considerations for Research in the Clinical Context

Community-engaged research identifies participants as key stakeholders in evaluating and translating interventions from research to practice. Infant-focused interventions often assess acceptability through parents, but we should also be accounting for the infants’ perspectives. This presentation discusses infants as stakeholders and ways to assess their acceptability of music-based interventions.

Deanna Hanson-Abromeit, PhD, MT-BC is an Associate Professor at the University of Kansas and a board certified music therapist. She has 28 years of healthcare and community-based clinical experience and has been a music therapy educator for 18 years. She leads the Baby-Music Intervention Research lab, which focuses on developing and strengthening theory, design, research, and practice of music interventions through clinical research and student mentoring.

Inclusión de cuidadores en la aplicación de la herramienta de evaluación en Musicoterapia Perfil Funcional Musical en Autismo (PFM)
Inclusion of caregivers in the implementation of the Musical Functional Assessment Profile in Autism (MFAP) assessment tool.

Se presentará el Perfil Funcional Musical en Autismo (PFM), herramienta de evaluación en musicoterapia para el contexto del Autismo. Se presentarán sus principales características, desarrollo, diseño y las nociones generales para su aplicación. Asimismo, se presentará la forma inclusión de los cuidadores en cada una de las etapas de su aplicación.

Nuria will present the Musical Functional Profile in Autism, a tool to evaluate music therapy in the context of autism. Nuria will present the main characteristics, development, design, y general features for its implementation. She will also address how to include the caregivers in each of the implementation stages.

Nuria Marsimian: Bachelor in music therapy, Universidad del Salvador, Argentina. She had a hospital practice in Music therapy and Medicine in Buenos Aires. She belonged to the team of Developmental Disorders in the Hospital Italiano of Buenos Aires for eight years. Since 2014, she is Director of the Posgraduate course in Music Therapy and Autism Spectrum, of University Institute of the Hospital Italiano of Buenos Aires. She is a clinican and clinical supervisor. She has published several articles on Latin American and international music therapy journals. She is currently co-editor of Music Therapy Today, Journal of the World Federation of Music Therapy.

Me, Her, and the Guitar: A Case Study in Systemic Family Music Therapy

This case study in music therapy involves a seven-year-old girl undergoing a process of unilateral paternal custody, experiencing depressive symptoms, insomnia, and nocturnal crying episodes, notably sleeping while embracing her guitar. The therapeutic bond through the guitar facilitated emotional expression and understanding of family dynamics via musical compositions.

Fernanda Valentin is a music therapist and professor of the music therapy program at Federal University of Goiás. PhD in clinical psychology and culture (University of Brasília). Master’s in music (Federal University of Goiás). Specialist in couples and family therapy (Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás).

Including families, or their members, in the treatment processes in the music therapy clinical practice. Facilitating the integral vision of infants and their interactions.

Valeria Fabre: Bachelor’s degree in music therapy by the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Has practiced with children in the mental health and disability field for 20 years. Supervisor and writer of several manuscripts in childhood journals. She works at Puerto Crianza, clinical practice for infants and children. Professor in courses such as Music therapy Theory, Music therapy for Children with and without morbidities. Adjunct professor for clinical practicum in the bachelor’s degree in music therapy of the Universidad Juan Agustín  Maza, Mendoza, Argentina. Argentina delegate in the Comité Latinoamericano de Musicoterapia (CLAM), representing the Universidad Juan Agustín Maza. Coordinated the congress secretariat for the VII Congress of the CLAM.

Esta presentación describe una propuesta pensada desde la música y la Musicoterapia para familiares de estudiantes que asisten al Colegio Nuevo Día, una institución de educación especial ubicada en Ramos Mejía (Provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina). Con la finalidad de ofrecer a la comunidad educativa un espacio artístico y expresivo que posibilite la prevención, la atención y la promoción de la salud en quienes son responsables de la crianza de jóvenes con discapacidad. Esta experiencia intenta brindar desde el arte una posibilidad de transformación de la realidad de las familias en el contexto de discapacidad y educación, propiciando así la formación de redes de contención afectiva y vincular entre pares. Ofreciendo un lugar seguro para quienes la transitan, donde se potencian aspectos saludables desde un trabajo expresivo, artístico y colectivo.

This presentation describes a proposal designed from music and music therapy for relatives of students who attend Colegio Nuevo Día, a special education institution located in Ramos Mejía (Province from Buenos Aires, Argentina), offering the community an educational, artistic, and expressive space that enables prevention, care and promotion of health in those responsible for raising young people with disabilities. This experience tries to offer a possibility of transformation of the reality of families through art in the context of disability and education, thus promoting the formation of networks of emotional support and bonds between peers. Offering a safe place for those who pass through it, where healthy aspects are enhanced through expressive, artistic and collective work.
