Music Therapy 2.0: Expanding Early Childhood Services in a Digital World
Petra Kern Music Therapy Consulting, USA

The music therapy service delivery landscape for young children and their families rapidly expanded over the past three years. Children of all abilities, family members, caregivers, and service providers alike leaped into the digital world. While there were many barrier to overcome, new concepts such as the three-tiered service delivery model for online early childhood music therapy emerged.

In this interactive workshop, participants will learn from survey research, practice guidelines, clinical reports, and video/live demonstrations about

  • the three-tiered service delivery model (i.e., curating online resources, creating original digital content, and implementing tele-interventions),
  • practice guidelines for using technology and interactive media with young children and their families in music therapy, and
  • applications of the content to their clinical work with hand-on experiences (i.e., music therapy-based playlists, music technology/ videos/ apps, and online interactions/coaching).

Participants will walk away with unique ideas, materials, and resources that will support them in adapting and innovating their services to young children and their families in today’s digital world.
