Participation in the arts - in theory and in practice

Kursinhalt: In diesem Seminar werden wir verschiedene Ansätze zur Teilhabe an den Künsten untersuchen. Ausgehend von der Beobachtung des Community-Künstlers François Matarasso, dass Partizipation in jüngerer Zeit zu einer normalisierten künstlerischen Praxis und kulturpolitischen Leitidee geworden ist, beschäftigen wir uns mit der Geschichte partizipativer und gemeinschaftsorientierter Kunstformen und setzen uns mit aktuellen Texten und Reflexionen auseinander, unter anderem von David Elliott u. a., Helena Gaunt u. a., Dave Camlin, Thomas Turino und Maria Westvall.
Dabei werden Konzepte wie Artistic Citizenship, Musicians as Makers in Society, Music Making and the Civic Imagination sowie Cultural Democracy diskutiert. Um die Verbindung zwischen Theorie und Praxis herzustellen, reflektieren wir kritisch bestehende Projekte und entwickeln eigene Ideen.

PERFORMERS (BACK) IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Kursinhalt: For a long time, the thinking and writing of music history has focused on the written “work” and its creator. But what if we shift the perspective and conceptualize music as a social sonic event?
In this course, we will focus on the people who make music sound: the performers. We will approach music history by examining their role in processes of musical creation and repertoire formation, as well as their impact on the distribution and reception of compositions. We will explore how this offers a more diverse and nuanced picture of the various individuals that have shaped music history.
