Wer warst Du, Franz Schmidt?

Maria Jenner, Principal of the Franz Schmidt Music and Art School, joins us to provide background to the project, moderate the session, and speak about how the school as a whole became involved in exploring Schmidt's life and legacy. All art classes of the school were involved in the project: Video and Film, Painting & Drawing, Acting, and Sculpture & Pottery.  The school's music students performed commissioned compositions including motifs from Franz Schmidt music "dressed" in a modern language. The session will offer an insight not only into the film itself, but also into the wider process through which a music and art school can explore the connections between history and the present across different forms of art.  

The project "Franz Schmidt Reloaded" is an example of possibilities that open up as music schools increasingly expand their curricula to include a broader range of art subjects. In the same session, Elisabeth Wieland from MKM Musik & Kunst Schulen Management Niederösterreich provides information about the Music and Art Schools in Lower Austria. In the session we will engage the audience in the dialogue about the current development of music and art schools in the province of Lower Austria, the organisational and legal frameworks for this model, and perspectives on future advances.

Maria Jenner, Direktorin der Franz Schmidt Musik & Kunstschule, wird uns Hintergrundinformationen zum Projekt geben, die Session moderieren und darüber sprechen, wie die Schule insgesamt an der Erforschung von Schmidts Leben und Vermächtnis beteiligt war. Alle Kunstklassen der Schule waren im Projekt involviert: Video und Film, Malerei und Zeichnung, Schauspiel, sowie Bildhauerei und Gestaltung. In Auftragskompositionen wurden Motive aus Franz Schmidts Musik verarbeitet, in eine moderne Sprache „gekleidet“ und von Musikschüler_innen der Schule uraufgeführt. Die Session bietet nicht nur einen Einblick in den Film selbst, sondern auch in den weiterführenden Prozess, durch die Musik- und Kunstschulen die Verbindungen zwischen Geschichte und Gegenwart in verschiedenen Kunstformen erforschen können. 

Am Beispiel des Projekts "Franz Schmidt Reloaded" werden Möglichkeiten aufgezeigt, die entstehen, wenn Musikschulen ihre Lehrpläne zunehmend erweitern und ein breiteres Spektrum an Kunstfächern einbeziehen. In derselben Session wird Elisabeth Wieland von MKM Musik & Kunst Schulen Management Niederösterreich Informationen über die Musik- und Kunstschulen in Niederösterreich bereitstellen. In der Session treten wir in einen Publikumsdialog und sprechen über die aktuelle Entwicklung von Musik- und Kunstschulen im Bundesland Niederösterreich, den organisatorischen und rechtlichen Rahmen dieses Modells sowie Perspektiven der zukünftigen Entwicklung.
