Liebe Kolleg:innen,

Vienna, September 14 |
Dear colleagues,
the past few weeks this summer at the office of research support have been marked by a successful isaResearch and numerous applications for third-party funding.
Current successes:
Congratulations to Sarah Chaker, director of the newly founded Center for Integrative Music Research (ZiM) at the Department for Music Education Research and Practice, on securing a grant from the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) for the project “Vivre de la musique.
We are delighted that Melanie Unseld has succeeded in playing a key role in shaping the City of Vienna’s research program “Strauss and 19th-Century Viennese Light Music Culture” and in securing one of the four funded positions for the mdw: Already this year, Julia Lenart will begin implementing her project on the spaces of urban light music in Vienna within the sphere of Johann Strauss (son) at the Department for Musicology and Performance Studies.
A warm welcome to Dr. Lisa Schön, who has been a visiting researcher at the Department for Music Sociology since August 2026, supported by a fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Events and Professional Development Opportunities:
As part of the first Postdoc Appreciation Week Austria (PAW), we invite you to a Postdoc Get-together in the banquet hall on September 21 at 5:00 p.m. and to the webinar “Giving and Receiving Peer Feedback with Clarity and Confidence” with coach Melanie Sindelar on September 23 at 1:00 p.m. On October 8 and 15, 2026, in cooperation with Human Resources Development – ZfW, the much-requested Media Training for Researchers will take place; there are still a few spots available.
We also cordially invite you to this year’s presentation of the mdw young research award 2026 by the Rector on September 23, 2026, at 5 p.m. in the New Concert Hall on Rennweg, during which a number of research projects and one composition will be honored.
As part of IN.TUNE, webinars on topics such as supervision, research ethics, and artistic research will be offered starting September 28, 2026. Further information and dates can be found here.
From October 1–3, 2026, the mdw Symposium Art. Research. Climate: Shaping Change will explore the significance of art, artistic research, and arts-based research, as well as their integration into transformative research. (registration until September, 25)
We are also announcing the event “Between Management, Art, and Science—New Careers for the University of Tomorrow” on October 22, 2026, at 3:30 p.m., which will address new hybrid fields of activity and the necessary skills, as well as issues of visibility and recognition. Registration is open until October 15.
We wish you a great start to the fall semester!
