Liebe Kolleg:innen, eine äußerst erfolgreiche Lange Nacht der Forschung 2026 liegt hinter uns und wir möchten uns ganz herzlich bei allen Forschenden und Kolleg:innen bedanken, die mit ihren Beiträgen und Gesprächen diesen Abend gestaltet haben. Besonders schön war das durchwegs positive und interessierte Feedback der Besucher:innen. Vielen Dank für das große Engagement und den Einsatz bis spät in die Nacht! Zur feierlichen Preisverleihung laden wir herzlich am 17.06.2026, 17:00-19:00 Uhr in den Bankettsaal ein. Auch darüber hinaus gibt es erfreuliche Nachrichten aus der Forschungscommunity der mdw: Wir gratulieren Thomas Grill (Artistic Research Center) sehr herzlich zur Auszeichnung seines Buchs „Rotting Sounds – Subject to inevitable erosion“ als eines der schönsten Bücher Österreichs 2025. Ebenso freuen wir uns über den erfolgreichen Projektstart von Riccardo Simionato (Institut für musikalische Akustik – Wiener Klangstil). Sein Projekt „KI-gestützte Erhaltung traditioneller Streichinstrumente“ wird durch das FWF-Programms ESPRIT für Early-Stage-Researchers gefördert. Wir gratulieren herzlich und heißen ihn an der mdw willkommen. Außerdem gratulieren wir dem Music and Minorities Research Center (MMRC), das aus den Mitteln des an Ursula Hemetek im Jahr 2018 verliehenen FWF-Wittgenstein-Preis gegründet werden konnte und nach 7 Jahren mit 6 abgeschlossenen, sowie 7 derzeit laufenden Projekten, einer Vielzahl von Veranstaltungen, Publikationen, digitalen Ausstellungen und dem bei mdwPress erscheinenden Open Access Journal Music and Minorities eine äußerst erfolgreiche Bilanz ziehen kann. Im Rahmen der diesjährigen Ausschreibung des mdw young research award für Maturaarbeiten rund um Musik und darstellende Kunst haben uns mehr als 50 Bewerbungen erreicht – aktuell sind wir dabei, die Gutachter:innen anzufragen und danken schon jetzt für Ihre Unterstützung! Die feierliche Verleihung findet am 23.09.2026 um 17:00 Uhr statt – save the date! Dear colleagues, We have recently enjoyed an extremely successful Long Night of Research 2026, and we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the researchers and colleagues whose contributions and discussions helped shape the evening. There is also more good news from the mdw research community: We warmly congratulate Thomas Grill (Artistic Research Center) on his book 'Rotting Sounds – Subject to inevitable erosion' being named one of the most beautiful books in Austria 2025. We are also delighted about the successful launch of Riccardo Simionato’s (Department of Music Acoustics – Wiener Klangstil (IWK)) project 'AI-assisted preservation of traditional string instruments', which has received funding under the FWF’s ESPRIT programme for early-stage researchers. We offer our warmest congratulations and welcome him to the mdw. We would also like to congratulate the Music and Minorities Research Centre (MMRC), which was established using funds from the FWF Wittgenstein Award awarded to Ursula Hemetek in 2018 and which, after seven years, can look back on an extremely successful track record, having completed six projects, with seven currently underway, as well as a wide range of events, publications, digital exhibitions and the open-access journal Music and Minorities, published by mdwPress, can look back on an extremely successful track record. As part of this year’s call for entries for the mdw young research award for school-leaving projects in the fields of music and the performing arts, we have received more than 50 applications – we are currently in the process of contacting the assessors and would like to thank you in advance for your support!
