Liebe Kolleg:innen, der April steht ganz im Zeichen der Langen Nacht der Forschung, die am 24.04.2026 am mdw-Campus stattfindet. Freuen Sie sich auf ein vielfältiges Mitmachprogramm mit Ausstellungen, Performances und interaktiven Formaten – von Klima und Akustik bis hin zu Musik, Gesundheit und Geschichte. Entdecken, ausprobieren und ins Gespräch kommen: eine inspirierende Nacht für alle Neugierigen. Unter mehr als 40 Stationen wird auch mdwPress mit einem eigenen Stand vertreten sein. Die feierliche Eröffnung findet um 17:00 Uhr auf dem mdw Campus statt. Kommen Sie vorbei! Mit großer Freude dürfen wir zudem berichten, dass Melanie Unseld (Institut für Musikwissenschaft und Interpretationsforschung, IMI) zum wirklichen Mitglied der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften gewählt wurde. Wir gratulieren herzlich zu dieser herausragenden Auszeichnung, die zugleich ein starkes Signal für die mdw als Wissenschaftsstandort setzt. Ebenso gratulieren wir David Weigl (Institut für musikalische Akustik – Wiener Klangstil) sehr herzlich zur Förderung seines Projekts „Executable Workflows for Digital Music Research“ im Rahmen des WWTF-Calls Data | Research (DARE) und wünschen viel Erfolg bei der Umsetzung dieses für die Digital Humanities wichtigen Projekts. Bis 30.04.2026 sind noch Einreichungen für die diesjährige isaResearch Summer School möglich, die vom 22.-25.07.2026 unter dem Titel „Across Moving Grounds: Music, Performing Arts, and the Politics of Mobility“ stattfindet. 2026 schreibt die mdw zum fünften Mal ihre interne Förderung für Pilotprojekte in der künstlerischen Forschung aus. Gefördert werden innovative Vorhaben mit klarer Artistic-Research-Methodik zur Vorbereitung von Drittmittelanträgen (insbesondere FWF/PEEK), bevorzugt publikationsorientiert, transdisziplinär und kollaborativ. Antragsberechtigt sind alle mdw-Angehörigen, insbesondere Early-Stage Researcher. Insgesamt stehen € 20.000 (max. € 5.000 pro Projekt) für 2026 startende Projekte zur Verfügung. Ende der Einreichfrist ist der 26.05.2026. Wir freuen uns über Ihre Anträge! Ein direktes Ergebnis der letzten Klausur der Wissenschaften ist die neue PhD-Co-Writing-Session – weitere Informationen dazu erhalten Sie beim Graduate Center. Abschließend möchten wir uns mit einer Bildernachschau noch einmal sehr herzlich bei all jenen bedanken, die unsere Feier anlässlich des 10-jährigen Bestehens der Forschungsförderung zu einem ganz besonderen Ereignis gemacht haben. Dear colleagues, A particular April highlight will be the Long Night of Research on 24 April 2026. Look forward to a varied hands-on programme featuring exhibitions, performances and interactive activities – covering everything from climate and acoustics to music, health and history, at the mdw Campus. Discover, try things out and strike up a conversation: an inspiring night for anyone with a curious mind. Among more than 40 stands, mdwPress will also have its own stand. The official opening will take place at 5 pm on the mdw campus. Do come along! We are also delighted to announce that Melanie Unseld (Department of Musicology and Performance Studies, IMI) has been elected a full member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. We offer our warmest congratulations on this outstanding honour, which also sends a strong signal regarding the mdw as a centre of academic excellence. We also congratulate David Weigl (Department for Music Acoustics – Wiener Klangstil) on the funding of his project “Executable Workflows for Digital Music Research” as part of the WWTF Call Data | Research (DARE) and wish every success in implementing this project, which is so important for the digital humanities. Until 30 April 2026, submissions for this year’s isaResearch Summer School – taking place from 22-25 July 2026 titled „Across Moving Grounds: Music, Performing Arts, and the Politics of Mobility“ – are still possible. In 2026, the mdw is inviting applications for the fifth time for its internal funding scheme for pilot projects in artistic research. Funding is available for innovative projects employing a clear artistic research methodology aimed at preparing applications for external funding (in particular FWF/PEEK), with preference given to projects that are publication-oriented, transdisciplinary and collaborative. All mdw members are eligible to apply, particularly early-stage researchers. A total of €20,000 (max. €5,000 per project) is available for projects starting in 2026. The deadline for submissions is 26 May 2026. We look forward to receiving your applications!
