Liebe Kolleg:innen, willkommen zum letzten Newsletter in diesem Jahr! Ein paar Neuigkeiten wollen wir Ihnen noch mit auf den Weg geben, bevor Sie in die wohlverdiente Winterpause gehen. Wir gratulieren Melanie Unseld und Bianca Schumann vom Institut für Musikwissenschaft und Interpretationsforschung (IMI) zur Wiederwahl als Präsidentin bzw. zur Wahl ins Präsidium der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Musikwissenschaft (ÖGMw). Bereits zum vierten Mal schreibt die mdw den „Herta & Kurt Blaukopf-Award für herausragende Dissertationen an der mdw“ aus. Die Auszeichnung dient der Sichtbarmachung besonderer Leistungen im Rahmen des wissenschaftlichen Doktoratsstudiums und der Förderung von Early-Stage Researchern für ihre weitere akademische Laufbahn. Wir laden alle Alumnae der mdw, die ihre Disputation zwischen 01.10.2023 und 21.01.2026 mit Auszeichnung abgelegt haben, herzlich zur Bewerbung ein und bitten die Betreuer:innen, den Call weiterzuleiten (Bewerbungsfrist 21.01.2026). Gerne weisen wir auf zwei Bücher hin, die soeben bei mdwPress erscheinen: "Facing Drag - Gender Bending and Racialized Masking in Performing Arts and Popular Culture" (hg. von Evelyn Annuß und Raz Weiner) sowie "Dirty Dragging - Performative Transpositionen" (Evelyn Annuß) wurden bereits vergangene Woche im Rahmen des “Second Opening” des mdw International Research Center for Gender and Performativity (ICGP) der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert. Erfreuliche Neuigkeiten aus dem Bereich Digital Humanities an der mdw: Im Rahmen eines FWF-geförderten Projekts am Wissenschaftszentrum Arnold Schönberg und die Wiener Schule/Arnold Schönberg Center unter der Leitung von Therese Muxeneder und Katharina Bleier wird Arnold Schönbergs Korrespondenz mit den Verlagen Universal-Edition und Dreililien ediert. Mit dem umfangreichen Release 2.0 sind nun Stellenkommentare, Veranstaltungsregister sowie xml-Downloads und neue Suchfunktionen online zugänglich gemacht worden. Die „Richtlinie des Rektorats zur Data Governance im mdwRepository“ wurde am 03.12.2025 im mdw Mitteilungsblatt veröffentlicht. In einem Workshop am 26.11.2025 wurden die Inhalte der Richtlinie präsentiert und Rollen bzw. Verantwortlichkeiten im Umgang mit kunst- und forschungsbezogenen Daten diskutiert. Wir danken allen Teilnehmer:innen für den anregenden Austausch! Viktoria Calvo-Tomek und Olja Janjuš von der Forschungsförderung werden im neuen Jahr im Rahmen von Gesprächen an den einzelnen Instituten konkrete Themen vertiefen. Neuigkeiten von der „Innovative Universities in Music & Arts in Europe“ Alliance (IN.TUNE): Nach der sehr erfolgreichen Durchführung der ersten „AIRE - Research in Education“ Konferenz im Rahmen von WP4: „Strengthening our Research Dimension“ an der mdw läuft nun der Call for Submissions für das zweite AIRE-Event in Oslo, 08.-09.04.2026, mit Fokus auf Forschung, Lehre und Supervision in Master- und Doktoratsstudiengängen. Studierende, Lehrende und Forschende der mdw sind eingeladen, sich zu bewerben (Einreichfrist 19.01.2026). Für nähere Informationen wenden Sie sich bitte an Isolde Malmberg (WP4- Working Group 2) oder Therese Kaufmann (WP4-Committee). Dear colleagues, Welcome to the last newsletter of the year! We would like to share a few news items with you before you head off for your well-deserved winter break. We congratulate Melanie Unseld and Bianca Schumann from the mdw Department of Musicology and Performance Studies (IMI) on their re-election as president and election as member of the executive committee of the Austrian Society for Musicology (ÖGMw). For the fourth time, the mdw is announcing the ‘Herta & Kurt Blaukopf Award for outstanding dissertations at the mdw’. The award serves to highlight special achievements in the context of doctoral studies and to promote early-stage researchers in their further academic careers. We cordially invite all alumnae of the mdw who have completed their dissertation with distinction between 1 October 2023 and 21 January 2026 to apply and ask supervisors to forward the call (application deadline 21 January 2026). We are pleased to draw your attention to two books that have just been published by mdwPress: ‘Facing Drag – Gender Bending and Racialised Masking in Performing Arts and Popular Culture’ (edited by Evelyn Annuß and Raz Weiner) and ‘Dirty Dragging – Performative Transpositions’ (Evelyn Annuß) were presented to the public last week as part of the ‘Second Opening’ of the mdw International Research Centre for Gender and Performativity (ICGP). Exciting news from the field of digital humanities at the mdw: as part of an FWF-funded project at the Arnold Schönberg Research Centre and the Vienna School/Arnold Schönberg Center, under the direction of Therese Muxeneder and Katharina Bleier, Arnold Schönberg's correspondence with the publishers Universal-Edition and Dreililien is being edited. With the comprehensive Release 2.0, passage comments, event registers, xml downloads and new search functions are now available online. The ‘Rectorate's Guidelines on Data Governance in the mdwRepository’ were published in the mdw ‘Mitteilungsblatt’ on 3 December 2025. In a workshop on 26 November 2025, the contents of the guidelines were presented and roles and responsibilities in dealing with research-related data were discussed. We would like to thank all participants for the stimulating exchange! Viktoria Calvo-Tomek and Olja Janjuš from our Research Support Office will be exploring specific topics in more depth in the new year as part of discussions at the individual institutes. Some news from the Innovative Universities in Music & Arts in Europe Alliance (IN.TUNE): Following the very successful first ‘AIRE - Research in Education’ conference as part of WP4: ‘Strengthening our Research Dimension’ at the mdw, the call for submissions is now open for the second AIRE event in Oslo, 8-9 April 2026, focusing on research, teaching and supervision in master's and doctoral programmes. Students, teachers and researchers at the mdw are invited to apply (submission deadline 19 January 2026).
