KARL ÖSTERREICHER COMPETITION OF CONDUCTING

 

For the very first time this year, the Karl Österreicher Award for advanced students of conducting will be announced at the Institute of Conducting of the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

 

The competition for the determination of the awardee will take place in two rounds:

Friday, June 21st, 2024, 2pm - 5pm: first round with György Ligeti's Chamber Concerto (Movements 1-3)
Saturdsay, June 22nd, 2024, 10am - 12.30pm: finale with Dvořák's Sinfony No.9

 

Location: mdw, Öhlbergerstudio C 0101, Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1, 1030 Vienna

 

Jury:

 

Eligible are all ordinary students in the second part of the study program of conducting, who have received the grade "sehr gut" (1) at their conducting exam at the end of the first part of the study program. Students who enter the first final examination in June can put in their application as well, and can enter the competition after receiving the required grade.

 

The winner will be awarded a concert with a professional orchester, that he or she may then conduct. This year's award concert will take place with the Nordböhmische Philharmonie Teplice on November 2nd, 2024 in the Smetana Hall in Prague. The main piece that evening will be Antonin Dvořák's 9th symphony.
