Recording of the book presentation and discussion “Dirty Dragging” in collaboration with Depot – Art and Discussion
September 15, 2026 | 17.00 | ORANGE 94.0 - Freies Radio Wien, online#Online
Drag is considered a subversive queer form of performance. But what happens when nonconformity is co-opted by the right? What are the historical precursors to right-wing spectacle cultures—and what forms of resistance can be used to counter them?
Political scientist Monika Mokre discusses these questions with cultural studies scholar Evelyn Annuß on the occasion of the presentation of Annuß’s book Dirty Dragging. Performative Transpositions. The book explores political violence, performative strategies, and historical references to apartheid, National Socialism, and U.S. segregation.
Evelyn Annuß directs the International Research Center Gender and Performativity at the mdw Vienna. Monika Mokre is a political scientist at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.
The program is a recording of the book presentation and discussion “Dirty Dragging,” recorded on June 24 at Depot – Art and Discussion in Vienna. The book is freely available under a Creative Commons license and can be read and downloaded via the link provided here.
