Born in Vienna, Wolfgang Dosch studied singing, acting, opera directing, theatre studies, musicology and cultural management. He works internationally as a singer, director and scholar. His repertoire as a singer includes over 70 roles sung and performed on nearly 3,000 evenings. He was the premiere singer of the one-man musical Novecento – Die Legende vom Ozeanpianisten (Novecento – The Legend of the Ocean Pianist), composed for him by Charles Kálmán and based on the book by Alessandro Baricco, and of Friedrich Cerha's Netzwerk at the Vienna Festival in the Theater an der Wien. As a director, he has worked on 80 productions in the fields of opera, operetta and musical theatre. 

Engagements have taken him to the Raimundtheater, the Theater an der Wien, the Landestheater Linz, the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl, the Seefestspiele Mörbisch, the Stadttheater St. Gallen, the Nationaltheater Mannheim, the Leipzig Opera, the Halle/Saale Opera, the Chemnitz Theatre, the Rostock Volkstheater, the Kaiserslautern Pfalztheater, the Regensburg Theatre, the Meiningen State Theatre, the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, the Dresden State Operetta, the Eutin Festival, the Dresden Music Festival, the Warsaw Autumn Festival, the Athens Festival and the Salzburg Festival.

He is a juror at international competitions, a consultant for publishers, theatres and other institutions, and writes publications for various publishers, theatres and festivals. At the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK), he was a university professor for scenic direction in the master's programme in opera and the classical operetta course. He also gives master classes in musical theatre in Europe and Japan. He is secretary general of the International Franz Lehár Society and a founding member and vice president of the Emmerich and Charles Kálmán Society. Dosch is now considered a leading researcher and director in the field of operetta in German-speaking countries. Since the summer semester of 2024, he has been teaching students at the Department of Voice and Musical Theatre at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in scenic-dramatic classes with a focus on operetta.
